  • 300zx Z32 (Pearl Yellow) Bananah Build

Decided I need to start some sort of build thread, and since I didn't feel like getting flamed all day by the older Z purists I landed here.

Bought the car a year and a half ago, 1990 N/A Z32 in Pearl yellow. Original plans were to paint the car gunmetal, but after finding out about how many were produced in this color and having it grow on me over time I decided to tough it out and come up with something to compliment the yellow.
Bone stock after owning the car for several months. My plans were held up by some mechanical issues with the car but after getting those sorted I got a set of wheels and some lowering springs from a friend of mine for really cheap. This was the result, deemed the start of it all. This was when I really fell in love with the yellow and decided I needed to go further.
At this point I was torn. The wheels didn't fit, the car wasn't low, it just didn't sit right with me and I knew I needed to go lower and more aggressive.

So that's just what I did. Purchased a set of Powertrix Coilovers from a local Z owner who was parting out his TT build, and started the search for some wheels that would meet my needs.
After the Coilover install, tint, and spacers along with full roll and pull and removing of the bumper tabs/fender liners.

I liked how it sat, it was lowish, I could still drive it around and it definitely looked good but once again I needed more, mainly in the wheel department. Finally decided on the 17x10 all around Cobra Saleen reps. I wanted to stay away from replicas, and I actually looked for a real set of these wheels but I could find any owners who wanted to sell and not only that I'd have to buy 2 sets to get both 17x10 rears that I needed. Once I got the wheels I spoke with a local powder coater and after looking through samples decided on a custom Brown with gold flake color.
They turned out awesome, and really went well with the yellow and gold theme I had going on.

As of right now that is my ride height. I have a 17x10 +0 with spacer in the rear and 17x10 with a 10mil spacer to clear the brakes up front. I'm going to be taking apart the front coilovers and modifying them so I can drop the front about another inch or inch and a half to even out my gap.

The words make it sound sexy but your pictures don't work!
Most of us here just host their images on an external site and use the IMG tag to put them in. The attachment system here is an object of mystery.

You can use photobucket or flickr or imgur. Imgurs the easiest in my opinion you don't have to register you just drag and drop your photos to the site.

For now just removing my coilovers and modifying the fronts to drop it about another inch, I really like where the rears are sitting, but the fronts are just too high. Aside from that im going to be doing a custom wing, along with a greddy gracer poly replica bumper. For now it's ride height, Im going for lowest static 300.

That it is, and you definitely understand what it's like dealing with these fenders. Going to be taking apart my powertrix tomorrow, hopefully it gives me just the right amount of drop.
