Thanks for all the positive comments, guys. I am really happy with the car so far. I have a couple little updates for you too
I took the old (ish) floor mats from my wrecked e34, and trimmmed them up a hair to fit the mr2. Surprisingly the color goes much better in the mr2 than it did in the e34.
I also tinted the tail lights from amber turn signals to red. This is what they originally looked like.
I used some of this stuff.
Masked the suckers up. Wet sandeded with 1500.
Couple coats of VHT translucent red. Wet sand. Then some clear.
Now they look like this.
I need to wet sand and buff the clear, but I think I should probably let the paint set a few days before I do that. Maybe I'm wrong, feel free to chime in. As far as the look, they are a bit darker then I would have liked, and to be honest I may end up swapping to 87+ tail lights. I haven't made up my mind yet.
I also pulled a couple of the adjuster collars out of the front to bring it down to even. I would like a little bit of rake to the car, but as it sits she is 21" from ground to the top point of the wheel arch all the way around.
So it's been a little while. Been sick for the past week so I have been lazy about posting, so here is a decent size update. Did a few maintenance items, as well as started on a little stereo upgrade
I ordered a buncha parts. Front brake calipers, rotors, pads, front tie rod ends, two's are us rear tie rods assemblies, and a trans mount since the front firewall side mount is pretty worn. Cool thing about the two's r us tie rod setup is that they use readily available front tie rod ends.
I wanted to paint the bare metal parts before putting them in. Taped it all up. Here are the two's r us tie rod center sections in primer.
Don't forget to wear the appropriate safety gear kids. Not only does it keep paint out of your lungs, but you get to pretend to be Darth Vader whenever anyone stops by!
Finished in black. Nice and simple.
Calipers, etc painted and assembled.
and rotor centers. $11/ea brembo's ftw! Don't mind the dust.
A little cutting to get the old tie rod ends out. Pic was sent from my girlfriend with the sepia or whatever effect.
Installed.
That was it for maintenance. I did notice my clutch master reservoir was running low. Upon closer inspection I found it had been leaking onto the floor and had started to rust the floor pan out from the inside out. Bummer So I got a new master on order. Also came home with my girlfriend one night in her car and noticed someone hit my drivers door. Nothing too bad, mostly some paint transfer and a scraped molding, but still a downer that they didn't even leave a note.
Then there is the stereo. I had a bunch of equipment from previous installs laying around, and I **** spending money so I ended up with a real assorted setup. I did spring for a pair of Mark Audio ch70 gen 3 4" full ranges for the dash since I've always wanted to try them out. Here is a quick photo highlight of the work I've done so far.
This is how you transport MDF with an MR2. That's 2) 2x4 sheets of 3/4".
Amp rack mockup, and test fit in frunk.
Keeping the spare cus I am lame.
Cutting mounting rings for door speakers.
Installed.
Full rangers modified to fit the factory dash locations. Factory grills still in use.
Haven't had the chance to do any tuning, but I am quite glad I did the upgrade. The response from the Mark Audio CH70's is great and I don't think I will be adding tweeters. The daytons are performing much better than the previous kick panel setup I had them in BMW before as well.
On a side note, I've been thinking about what I want to get for a replacement daily. I really like having a wagon, you can't beat the space when picking up parts, wheels, wood, etc. I also want something somewhat fuel efficient. My 5'er was not so great at about a 21mpg average. A stick would be nice as well. Anyone have any idea's under 6-7 grand that would fit the bill?
