    Thanks guys!

This last weekend was Round 6 of Redline Time Attack. It was a scramble to get the car ready since the front aero and bumper was damaged at the last event. Additionally this front aero is just a temporary set up since the front end will be receiving a major overhaul over the next few months when we change classes, so I didn't want to invest a lot of time and money making a part to last one event. After getting the new less than optimal splitter on we had to align the car to make some changes to improve rear grip. We finished the alignment at 12:30 Friday night and then headed home. With only a couple hours of sleep we were on our way to Buttonwillow for Saturday's test and tune. The temps were hot and the tires were shot, but I wanted to try the new surface to see where there was and wasn't grip. Overall the track feels like it'll be a lot faster once it seasons in, but my times were a couple of seconds off of my personal best due to the tires. After a couple of short sessions we headed back to the hotel to get ready for Sunday.

Sunday morning we grabbed our coffee and left for the track. About a mile after getting on the highway I noticed the coolant temperature starting to spike. I immediately shut the car down and was lucky enough to have a rest stop only a few hundred feet away. I rolled the car into a parking spot and popped the hood. Only to find that the expansion tank had developed a major leak. We made a couple of calls and a friend from the track came to pick us up while we waited for the part. At the track a friend asked where my car was, and as I was explaining the situation he mentioned that he had a spare one. With 45 minutes until the Time Attack session we drove back to my car, swapped the tank, and drove back to the track. As we pulled up to the track I could see that they already had the first group of drivers on track meaning that we were just in time to get into the second group. I pulled straight to grid, put my helmet on and waited to be released. Our group went out a couple minutes later, and despite having no practice, the settings off, and tires with about 40 heat cycles I was able to go out and set a 2:00.1 lap on my first hot lap. This was good enough for me to take the victory by over 2 seconds. I was disappointed to have not beaten my PB, but was happy to have taken the victory and glad that I could drive home. That leaves the StanceWorks X Avus Autosport team undefeated this season and with the championship almost sealed.

Please ignore my mangled front end

Next weekend is my last race in the Enthusiast Class. In preparation we've started building another engine.

Yesterday I started disassembly. All that's left is to pull everything out of the bottom end and then it's off to the machine shop.

I was a little surprised too. I thought they'd shun me for chrome stickers, polished wheels, and my love of stance haha. I guess they must not have noticed.

Seriously! Everyone is shocked at how comfortable the seats are. The guys at bf.c have been pretty friendly towards it. I consider it a middleground car between the two camps lol

I installed the arms a couple of days ago in preparation for Round 5 of Redline Time Attack. The response and feel on the drive home was great. I can't wait to see how different the front end feels this weekend!

Since the last post I had Round 4 of Redline Time Attack at Willow Springs International Raceway. It was a really hot day, and a mistake in my first timed session lead to a fast lap that wasn't as good as I had hoped. I held the previous record with a 1:32.243. I was able to set a new record of 1:31.914. It was a bit of a disappointment since the car would have done a lower 1:31 and potentially a 1:30 in the first session. The temperatures got to around 95 degrees in the second timed session which kill any chance of a really fast lap. Despite that, I still had a lot of fun and the cars performance was excellent.

Here are a couple of photos from the event.

Round 5 is next weekend, and my SLR control arms came in yesterday! I'm excited to get these on and see how the car changes.

My front Big Brake Kit from WP Pro is coming together too.
Here's a picture of the 8 Piston Calipers with Carbide Nitride treated heat shields

They're also working on a light weight rotor. With the rotor and hat it should weigh in at less than that stock rotor despite being almost 40mm larger.

Summer is coming, and CA track days get hot! I recently picked up a Koyorad radiator since the aluminum radiator that was in there was one that I bought in a rush. With the old radiator the car would overheat on hot track days after 3-4 laps. When I found out Koyorad was coming out with a radiator I knew it would be the option I was looking for. Excellent quality, fitment, and value.

Here are a couple of shots of the radiator. As you can see, it has a much bigger core than stock at 48mm. Most >42mm radiators from reputable manufacturers are almost twice the price. So this was a no brainer since i know that Koyorad has top notch quality and all of my friends have used their parts on track for years.

In no time I had the old radiator out. Here are a couple of shots comparing the old radiator to the new one.

One thing I really didn't like about the old radiator was the poor fitment. When we put it in originally it didn't fit right and required a lot of massaging to make fit. The Koyorad radiator fit perfectly and the factory shroud mounted easily. Needless to say I was very happy with the ease of installation.

Next came testing on track and in gridlock traffic. With the old radiator or stock radiator I couldn't sit in traffic with the A/C on. With the new radiator that problem went away. I'm confident that i could sit for hours and never have a problem. Finally the real test of beating on it at the track came. I ran the car for 3 sessions with multiple hotlaps for testing the temps never budged despite the hot day.

Last Sunday I made it out to the BMWCCA LA Chapter Auto-x. I finally had an open weekend to help them with some instruction and kill some cones (no cones were harmed during this test). I've found Auto-X'ing to be hard on cooling systems since you're near redline for over a minute at low speeds, and then the car sits and heat soaks. With the old radiator temps would start to rise after the first run (no fans). With the Koyorad installed the temperatures never budged.

Overall I'm thrilled with the performance of the radiator. Hands down the best option when it comes to performance, quality, and value.
