    • The handlebar position on your bike frightens me. Roll the bars backwards so the drops are parallel with the ground!

Sorry if I didn't clarify, that photo was halfway through building the bike, the handlebars are in a much better position now. The shop I bought my parts from forgot a bunch of parts I needed, namely crank pins and handlebar bolt, so I tried using a bolt off one of my other bikes, but they were all the wrong size. I still need to unwrap the handlebars and remove the unnecessary brake lever. Will probably do that when I install the front brake, and when I have some not-disgusting handlebar end caps.

        • Bad news guys...
Dan's had a look over the car and says I'm looking at about $1000 just to get her running again.
Additionally, since I haven't actually officially taken ownership of the car, I need a roadworthy certificate, which apparently needs: Subframe bushings (wtf), a knock in the steering sorted out, a windscreen chip fixed, new front struts, and something done about my driver's seat. Then I need to fork out for the RWC itself, and the modification plate for the supercharger.
Needless to say, I'm pretty shattered. At this point I honestly want to sell it and start again with one that is at least registerable.
There are a couple of nice M535i's for sale in the area, but with the money I've spent on Lily so far, they're still out of my price range, despite the ridiculously low prices.

          • I didn't follow the whole thread, but can't you take the aftermarket ECU and supercharger off? And put on the stock one just for the car to run. ?

            • Running isn't the issue. The SC modplate is a really small thing in the scale of the other stuff that needs to be done. The last time the fuel tank was filled up was in August or so, and the guys are saying it's going to cost a lot to get it flushed etc.

Okay, had a bit of a cry to myself yesterday, went to uni, got pissed (read, a bit tipsy), cried to my parents, and I would like to say

I got gems such as "A scrap yard might give you a couple of hundred dollars" and "There's no way you could sell it for more than $1000"
Well. Great. I got over it.
I think I'm holding on to her. I need to figure out what's going on with the subframe, and if that's fixable, then I think I'm in for the long haul. It's moments like these that you realise that fixing an '87 while working casual, and studying full-time is not the most practical situation.
OKAY ENOUGH BORING; butts, fart, haha jokes.

Know this feel. And these new laws suck ass, I have sold my airbag setup now but yeah, building any car when studying full time and working casually is not an easy task :/

                          • 4 fucken stars for you fellow hairy australian, subbin for the lolz. You lost a half star for for the low self esteem (calling yourself worlds worst mech) and another half star for lacking SEQLD kludge skills, theres a metric fuck ton of wreckers down there you can pilfer parts from and im sure if you check local parks and the pine forest you'd find a decent dumper

anyway GL with the ol girl hope you stick with it and stay entertaining cunt

                            ps. *cough* dodgyroady *cough*

                            • Your RWC issues are not that bad:
Subframe bushes are a bit of a bitch to do but are really not that hard
Steering knock is probably worn ball joints in the tie-rod ends
Get some second hand shocks that are not blown if you want to do it cheap or new dust boots and a good clean to hide the leaking
If the seat is torn put a seat cover on or a second hand seat
I'd say fuel is not an issue as modern fuels don't go off that fast, my fuel has been sitting in my car since June and she runs no worries.

If you don't know what else you will need for RWC, get the inspection done, get the full list of things to fix and do them yourself while learning to wrench at the same time.

It's not low self-esteem, I actually consider myself a reasonably positive person - facts are facts, and everything I have done so far has either broken the car more or taken an unreasonably long period of time.

For sure I'll get better though.
There are 2 dedicated German/BMW wreckers just down the road from me - finding parts is not the problem.

You're absolutely right. The issues are not that bad, and I'm sure I can figure it out with the internet. I don't know on the fuel stuff, but I do need to at least check out the injectors, apparently cyl 3&4 were running a lot richer or something. The subframe bushes were done in September 2012. Yes, that's 8 months ago, in which I have literally not driven the car at all, so it might be new crossmember time /(-_-)/

In any case, I've got the quote for the work the mechanics have done so far - I'm looking at about $230

Which is ridiculous, but I had been saving for a potential $3k bill, so I'll front up and pay the bill next week and get it towed home (because Dad has informed me that it is possible to remove the fence and work on the car under the back deck).
Hopefully I can get it done in the June Uni break.

ashton, you be quiet now, you bought a toyota.
