72 squareback auto

after purchasing my first new car, 2013 jetta. I need a real project to work on and get dirty with.

a friend of mine was selling his 1972 squareback for a great price to me. so without any hesitation, i grabbed it the next day.

-already lowered a good bit
-roller paint job
- running motor

lots of rust repair to be done, water comes in from the inner drivers side fender when it rains, so that will be taken care of first. will be updating very frequently. thanks for looking!

nothing done since earlier today, but i did buy something...

so some updates! took the passenger fender off, already knew there was a ton of rust, but it was a ton more extensive than i had previously thought.

anyway, so we got to cutting and welding, didnt feel like getting repair panels so we're just piecing it together with sheet metal, all will be smoothed out and sprayed with rust reformer then undercoating.



also, we are removing the gas fill neck and relocating it under the hood, which means we get to shave the gas door on the passenger fender



first chunk cut out and patched.





the extent of all the patch work done by someone a while back, screwed in tin with silicone surrounding it.







the rot cut out where the neck used to be







and it brings us to the progress we've made patching theis whole piece



thats a big hold in the middle we still need to fill. there will be two layers, inside and out.
