  • Smashed out litter box

Heyo. Longtime lurker. Figure Ill start a thread for my awful car, a 1995 Saturn SW2. Get it? Its plastic. Its square. Its a litter box.

    Little backstory:

Been into Saturns my entire life. My father was a Saturn Tech for 15+ years. My first car was a Saturn. I then purchased this car from him for $100 in 2007. It had been sitting behind our garage for about a year, and before that the previous owner had it sitting for 3 months with the back windows down.

Yeah I dont know why I bought it either.

This is what it looked like when I started:

Then I started the cleanup. This was a blast.

The car had about 200k on it, and the original motor was tired. I was lucky enough to get a wrecked car from a buddy for nothing, and the motor was pretty fresh. So the plan was to combine the best parts off of the two of them. Interior parts, drivetrain parts, etc.

This was the summer of 2008.

I finished the car just in time to drive it down to Tail of the Dragon for the first time in August of 2008. Got super into autocross and trying to make the stupid thing fast. The following pictures are from then until I stopped driving it in August of 2009.

Then in August of 2009 I lost my license for habitual offender of speeding laws. Basically I was young and retarded, and got too many points in too short of an amount of time. The car was parked and has sat since then. In the 3 years since I lost my license, I started to get out of the racing/autocross scene and started hanging out with more euro/drifitng/stance types and started going to more shows. Waterfest, H2o, local shows as well. I started to get more and more into the "stance" world, and now Im basically completely hooked.

I am getting my license back next week, and the car has been pulled out of the carport. This was the parts list when I stopped driving it.

HKS Catback (super rare, only a handful in the country)
    SPS 4-1 header (super rare)
    Sprint 2" drop springs/KYB struts
    SPS Short Ram intake
    SPS Billet Strut tower bar
    bwtucker rear strut tower bar
1 of 1 custom made gauge faces with led back lighting
    Homemade front lip
    Falken Azenis 512
    Other random small things.

I sold off a lot of the autocross parts I had on the car, like my Sparco Sprint seat and harnesses, and the SAFC2. All the other stuff I am keeping however.

Now, like I said, I am planning on going low and slower with the car now.

Suspension- Obviously the aftermarket for these cars is slim to none. A few years ago two small companies came out with coilovers for them, but I could never afford a set. Then the companies went away. Now you are lucky to find a used set, because everyone hangs on to them. About 3 weeks ago, I was able to grab a set of used Agilitys FINALLY after trying for 4 years.

    Agility Coilovers
    32 way adjustable
    pillowball top mounts
adjustable bottom mounts as well as normal locking collars.

These will be more than adequate to get me where I want to go.

Wheels- This is a little harder. 4x100, should be easy right? Yeah not so much. The suspension set up on the 1st gen saturns is retarded, and the rear axle is narrower than the front. My stock 6.5" +50 wheels are pretty much flush in the front, and the rears are so sunken in its sickening. So I need something narrow, high offset for the front, and wider, low offset for the rear. I am going for staggered or staggered offsets, so give the staggered look.

    Im also broke.

    Be prepared to flame.

I think I have decided on wheels. They fit my budget, and look pretty good. I wanted 16s, but with my weird requirements, and being too broke to build nice wheels, beggars cant be choosers. This car is also worth about $500, so Im not prepared to put baller wheels on it. Yet.

Drag dr-27s will fit my requirements nicely. fronts will be 15x7 +40, rears will be 15x7 +10, and I may run a 15-20mm spacer on the rear.

Reasons Im going with the Dr-27: Not multi lug, same tire size all the way around (was having issues finding tires for another staggered set I was looking at) and I like the machined faces.

And that is where I stand currently. Fully expecting to catch a lot of shit because its not a bmw, but Ive been catching shit for this car for years, Im pretty much used to it. I will be updating this thread often, as I hope to start working on the car in the next week or so.

Offset is too high for the front. Already test fitted a set of ATS Cups that were 15x7 +25. It didnt end well in the front.

Thats the front poke, and the rears were still sunken in. It had a reverse staggered look. Looked terrible.

Be the first Saturn guy to cut out the fenders on mold on flares.

This thing on some meshies and the lows would be so sick!

I wonder if you could put an SC2 front on this thing o:

sc2 front + s30 bolt on fender flares + wide ass banana spoke wheels would be tits.

I like these different kinds of builds because they usually turn a car that I absolutely **** into something I want.

So is this 4x100? Looks for some e30 basketweaves. They are 14's. But if you got low enough they would look baller. And you can score em real cheap. Like a couple hundred with tires. Just stalk Craigslist.

I like the car so far. Lower it to a point where you can't drive fast anymore and keep that license
