I got an idea. my brother and i were thinking as we were looking at your thread and how about a sport bike gas lid? that way you don't have to relocate it and you can fill the area in and put the sport bike lid over it. just a thought.

Great work! Fenders are somewhat reminiscent of GC lines which I was always a fan of. Front fenders look pretty good and it flows well. I can't believe that these were once jetta fenders. I see what others are saying about the inward direction of the rear fender lips. I can envision the wheel lip clapping that fender while riding over a pothole, ouch. I wonder how the front fenders would look if you smoothed out the residual box "fenderness" on either side of the rounded flares in the front. I think this would offer an overall smoother fender shape IMO.

I totally know what you mean. That was a big debate I had before starting the whole project, as I knew the round fenders would clash with the square fenders, I just hoped I could blend it enough to where it looked good.

And smoothing the fenders entirely would be nuts! In the front it would be hard as hell, and in the rear it would be even harder, as that body line works it's way into the door. The idea definitely has a lot of promise, but it would be a whole 'nother 4 months to accomplish that I think. haha
Not to mention it would change the entire look of the car. I might have to photoshop it or something It'd look like a Mk4 I bet. lol

I'm appreciating all the comments on how to fix the gas door, I'm going to back to the garage tomorrow to kick that things ass!

I'm really feeling shaving it, and filling up from the trunk. I'm really going to investigate the "box" that surrounds my gas filler neck, and see if it can be beaten one way or another. haha


Thanks man! I need to call you guys one day soon. I need to get my bags to be stiffer,so I can ride low with my new raised fenders. But I need a lot of lift to be able to get into my driveway without taking my bumper off (Scrapes at full lift now). Will be calling soon. lol

ughhhh i was really hoping this gas door issue would resolve itself by now as I've been following the thread since the beginning but i have been forced to log in and attempt to provide assistance.

you done fucked up. if i remember correctly they were flares in rear not over-fenders? if thats the case you should have fab'd the cutout without permanently attaching the flares first, that way you can quickly do the filler/finishing work on the cutout before its on the car and hard to work around, plus if you have issues with the door opening it is very easy to resolve them.

anyway, I am by no means an expert, but I went through the same shit on my car and thats how i took care of it so maybe it will help you.

but if you don't mind me asking, what exactly is the problem with the gas door right now, it honestly looks fine to me; hit that bitch with some 60grit and call it a day

Have you thought about putting the hinges on the opposite side to OEM and working the bubble flare with metal to save a good inch of filler visible when open?

I'm sure you would have thought of this before but surely it can't be that hard to do?

To the above, yes, I have the shape all worked out, and I've made a fiberglass copy, so I didn't have to add on to the original gas door, I shaped a new one.

The shape is not so much the problem as the mechanics of how it will open- I suppose I should have specified this. The factory hinge is not going to work, and getting a new hinge that will be able to allow me to have a flush fitting gas door, along with using the stock "gas door popper opener" thing has proved to be challenging. I think I'm just going to say f it and cut the filler neck off the gas tank, turn it around, and do it from the trunk. That way the fender will be smooth. I'm taking my car to my good buddies shop to have the rear inner fenders welded back up, and if I haven't figured the gas door out by then, trunk mount it is!

Oh, and best believe I will be posting in NASIOC. So many old grumpy Subaru guys will be angry.
Again, sorry for the lack of updates. Finals were this week, along with work and Christmas for friends/family (me being broke). But now that's mostly out of the way.

Biggest issue is finding a paint scheme for the wheels I can be happy with, putting the damn things on, and finishing the front bumper. Then vinyl and shouldddd be just about done!

i saw a picture of joy abdalla's car a while ago where she was filling it up through the trunk, but not in a fuel cell. not sure if shes on any forums of not but her cars all over the internet. this is hers:

Smooth it out and fill it up out the trunk. My vote at least.

Alright guys, so I FINALLY got the wheels and tires set up for the most part. Went with a 245/40 (Which is a little tall for what I want, but I got em for $100 so can't complain).
18x11.5 -12 up front
18x11.5 -42 in the rear.

The fronts I think are too aggressive. I'm running 20mm adapters, but I don't want more camber front than rear, so I think I'm gonna pick up a set of 15mm adapters off Vortex to get the fronts settled.

The rears are great, but I'm hitting the door line. Which is why I cut my door out the way I did, and it's still not close to enough. This is again, a very rough mock up, but I'm happy!
I know what needs to be done, the 18's aren't too small.







I think a 5mm reduction up front will put it right where I want it!

And you can see here how the rears are not nearly low enough.




Not bad for now, but I have obviously an inch or so to go lower all around. Maybe 2".



Oh, and I need to fix the bumper a little bit too. They don't like the aggressive tires.


Also, those little squares on the fenders are color swatches. That's what color the car will be! Hope to get moving on this after the holidays, and have it done before fucking spring!
