I think you could mount the door with the hinge on the back side and just have one of those hing/locking assemblies where you push behind the hinge and the door opens. No cable needed.

Excellent work for a novice thus far. This certainly commands respect.

Can't wait to see this thing finished.

I love the building keep up the work. Love that your doing your own thing. I always wanted to know what a WRX would look like if it was done as a true VIP with radiused and pulled fenders. It inspires me on my next build.

Make a new door that is as thin as the stock one and move the hinge outwards. Take out the old door completely.

awesome work! impressive vision and execution for your first time.

for the gas door, I think deleting the door and filling through the trunk makes the most sense.

                      • Thank guys!
I'm appreciating all the comments on how to fix the gas door, I'm going to back to the garage tomorrow to kick that things ass!

I'm really feeling shaving it, and filling up from the trunk. I'm really going to investigate the "box" that surrounds my gas filler neck, and see if it can be beaten one way or another. haha

Thanks man! I need to call you guys one day soon. I need to get my bags to be stiffer,so I can ride low with my new raised fenders. But I need a lot of lift to be able to get into my driveway without taking my bumper off (Scrapes at full lift now). Will be calling soon. lol

I'm not sure if it's possible to make your current struts any stiffer but Air Lift has a proprietary valving design for their struts and they get very stiff. Either way, we'll figure out something for you.

                          • Great work! Fenders are somewhat reminiscent of GC lines which I was always a fan of. Front fenders look pretty good and it flows well. I can't believe that these were once jetta fenders. I see what others are saying about the inward direction of the rear fender lips. I can envision the wheel lip clapping that fender while riding over a pothole, ouch. I wonder how the front fenders would look if you smoothed out the residual box "fenderness" on either side of the rounded flares in the front. I think this would offer an overall smoother fender shape IMO.

Also, I see you are contemplating what to do with the door line in the rear. I think you should follow the stock body lines for it, seeing that you following stock body lines for the fenders as well. Although the split down the middle looks fine, it kinda splits the fender in half and disrupts the flow. Also, its kind of funny imagining half of the fender coming off of the car every time you open the door. Further, what if you you hit something when that door is swung open and then that entire fender become ruined (I guess this goes both ways regardless of where you split it stock vs. middle)

Just my .02 cents, because I have been thinking of doing this with my IS as well. I have the similar problems as you i.e. door line, body line but without the box fender issue. Again, great work and can't wait to see the car progress.

                            _____

*This is what I mean by smoothing out the front fender. Compare the two, see how yours have the step-out from the OE fenders?
