Ok so this was my car, then i gave it away, then i got it back, so i will be stealing the old build thread and moving it here so i can add to it
all this first writing is just copied form alex so please excuse the autism

"This is just a little shot of what we've done over the past day and a half.
Here is what the car looked like when my friend (thats me) got it about 8 months ago. It pretty much sat like that, a little bit of Bondo was thrown on it and all of the trunk and some of the driver's side were sanded and primed.






It came to my house yesterday and we started work

All the wiring in the car was pretty much fried. It had just enough to get it to run. We took everything out and redid the basic wiring, properly.


This is after we pulled all the wiring.



Then we took out what was left of the interior. Headliner, back seats, dash, door cards and then vacuumed out all the dirt/rust flecks.


We ended last night by pulling the hood to prep for a re-paint.



Today we pulled the hood outside, sanded it down and put down about 2 coats of Wal-Mart $0.96 flat white.


We also picked up some wheels, again, free.


We wired up a tach and

"Re-Badged" it.

I know this car will never ever be what it once was. The body is way to rusty to repair properly so we're going to use it as a race car (haha yea right). It should be a ton of fun. Our goal is to have the car ready to race by September so we can enter the race at Carolina Motorsports Park in SC (again haha).

So far we've found out the car has a transmission from and e31 324d and a 2.0l engine, from what, we have no idea.

Day 2/3
Cleaned out and vacuumed the trunk and rear seat. Went and got "tuner" wheel lugs to fit the new wheels. Got about $11 worth of $0.96 spray paint. Put another coat of white on the hood and painted the last wheel.

Also removed the stupidly routed stock muffler so now it sounds good.


Hooked up the tach and temp gauge lights and wired them up to a separate switch.


Then after we took it down a "rally road" aka my driveway we found that the rear windows were rattling dangerously, so, we took them out. This is how it sits after three days.

After that I tightened it as much as was humanly possible. It squeaks less now but it's going to need a new belt to completely solve the problem.

Well here is the last update for a few weeks. We got the front wheels on. Wired the tach and water temp switch to a separate light switch and got it working properly.

We spent most of the day out in a field "rallying." The car is a beast. It weighs absolutely nothing so it spins tires effortlessly.

The biggest problems right now are a pretty bad coolant leak, an oil pan gasket leak, and a fuel filler tube leak. Once those are fixed it will be just about ready to race. We just have to get the rear drums working again.

Our future plans are to find a way to use the old stock springs out of my M3 to stiffen it up a bit and to hopefully get a newer radiator probably from a civic or accord so we can rely on it.

Here are some pictures I took after getting home today, shot with a Nikon L105 (aka. walmart POS).

















I want to get this car on the road soon, it's amazingly fun to drive in the small space I have for it. I can't imagine what it's like on the road.

So I organized all the parts I have for the car

And then took it on a rally run at night. That was some fun stuff. I hope they have night rally-crossing sessions.


Tomorrow i'm going to try my best to get the brake lights wired up, both solid and switch lights.

I'd also like to do an oil change but all I have is 0w-40 and that's for the M3 so that's going to have to wait.

Spent a good portion of the day wiring up the brake lights. The guy who re-wired the car before me was an idiot, i'm not sure how he had things working but it didn't really make much sense. So I cut just about everything left out and re-did all of it myself (in all one color... thanks). I got the rear lights working and wired only problem is the brake light switch is bad. So I'm going to have to find a new one or ghetto rig another.

Here is the old gauge cluster, I tried to pull it and get the fuel gauge wired up, but I think it's broken.

Organized all my paint and put it inside to warm it up.

Here are two of the ghetto wired brake lights. The previous owner soldered wires directly to the bulbs. So, every time you have to change a bulb you have to pull it and re-wire an entire new bulb
we made a spoiler for the car. It's pretty solid considering it's made of cardboard. But our next goal is to try and make a actual one out of fiberglass.

I also changed the spark plugs, oil, and kind of un-caked the rear wheels as they were barely spinning.

We're also starting on a roof rack, made out of conduit and a pallet. That'll probably be done sometime in the next month, I'm back in school and don't really have much time to work on it.

Right now it needs the spark plugs regapped. It's misfiring like a mofo. Anyway here are some pics.

Still needs to come down in the front. Fenders need to be rolled and the back wheels need to be pushed out about 5-10mm but after that it's good to go

Small update before things get a little crazy. The shocks finally came in from tire rack. Jesus it took forever. The wait was worth it though. It's hard to beat $85 for two shocks. Anyway they had been at my house for about an hour before they went on.

Nice new shiny KYBs too bad they'll be blown again in like a month. Ohh well

I have to say the wait was well worth it. Both came with every piece of hardware I needed. Even the double nuts for the tops. Great deal.

BTW car rides pretty smooth for how low it is. It's not bad on the road. If everything goes according to plan i'll have some video up tomorrow of it driving.

Coming Alone Nice

Ok so this is where my work starts, the car sat for about 5 months being started every now again but nothing more, I got a new 2002 radiator, but still havnt installed it. I have not really focused on this at all until this week because I have to many other projects, but I have been inspired lately. Half because of this sweet 2002 I saw at BFI Oktoberfest, and the rest because the town said it was ugly, and if I don’t make it less ugly they will tow it.

So here it was last week




and today I did this



Then add a $30 harbor freight spray gun, 1 gal of metal enamel $20 (only used 1/5 of it) some mineral spirits $10 and about 2 hours and…

its dark now, but the hood and front will be matte black, and ive got some wheels that will go on in the next week, I will try to keep this moving at a descent pace, but I am in school so no promises

coming up put the exhaust on, street sign floors, and Brakes!!!
If all goes well and someone buys my lame accord this will be registered and legal by the end of the month

I was wondering as I scrolled through the pics if people were going to be mean (read: honest) about this thing. I understand it was in pretty rough shape, and can appreciate that you're at least showing it some attention, but pre-paint that thing was really really rough looking lol. That said, the new color is cool. Get rid of the Ken Block wheels and maybe put a floor in it, and you could pull it off. When done right, you can still have a really cool car with a lot of character even if it is a beater.

I should have emphisized that better. This has potential and I can see how it could be nice. Sure it won't be perfect(no car is), but right now there are alot of things that don't seem to be done right.

Street sign floors and painting the car with what looks like a complete lack of body work is what I'm talking about.

ok well its gonna be flat black, it hides the fact that the drunk guy i bought the car from drove it into 50 trees, but it will be fairly clean as far as a $250 car goes, i actually really like the mint valvecover on Igor, but it wouldnt match the cream, I agree with you guys the wheels do suck, and i have new ones to go on that will fit the era and style much better, also i am not 100% on the color, but it also needs a lot of body work before i can justify good paint, i just needed it one color so it wouldnt be towed, i want to go for a more mk1 vw beige with the next spray.
these will be the new wheels at least for now

Flat black doesn't hide anything, if anything it makes it look more cheap. Especially if it's two tone between the cream and black. Please just do the entire thing cream. It looks very nice, despite the smashed body.

The new wheels will fix alot of this car!

(My mint valve cover doesn't match anything haha. If I could do it again, I'd keep the bay burgundy, and the valve cover polished. )
