Love following this thread bud, had to do tons of work on my bug, new drivers side floorpan, 2 new heater channels, new spare wheel…… the list goes on haha anyway here's a pic of mine with a4" narrowed beam, drop spindles and down two splines at the back

Thanks for the compliments guys, getting close to turning the corner with the beetle.

After all of the slag burns and splash from MIG welding, it was a treat to break out the TIG torch, but sadly it wasn't for fancy dime stacked welds. Just a small seam to affix some studs for the coil.





All purty'd up, slapped on a breather for the oil neck and the motor is 100% ready for install when the paint is done.

Had some time to finish trimming and checking fit on the pans. It's starting to look like a car again.



7,000 gallons of acetone and a few hours with the wire wheel and we're one step closer to spraying and jambing the interior.

I will never strip another headliner... Rather, the next time I'm media blasting all the old glue and paint off.



Masked and awaiting k36, dbc and clear.



If all goes well, wednesday the interior will be sprayed with base and clear!!

PAINT!

The interior was shot with a coat of ossiblau and light coat of clear.

Updates and all that good stuff... Pan has been welded and sprayed black, along with the beam. When through one set of ball joints, I will never use CIP1 again. Bought a set of euromax ball joints. Pressing the joints was a completer cluster fuck, they didn't fit right, boots tore, and I had to buy another eccentric camber adjuster. All said and done, I couldn't turn the steering knuckles, even with all of my weight/force, which is unacceptable. Their response: Just drive it... I've spent a fair amount of money with them in the past few months. After this bit of customer service, they aren't seeing another dime of my money.

Anywho, got a decent set of trw/varga joints from SoCal, they went in beautifully, and work great.

Enough talk, time for pictures.

Got the trans in, took the full 3 minutes.


In order to get a decent coat of paint on the pan and arms I decided to pull the stub shafts. The passenger side shaft had to be bashed out with sledge hammer, also managed to trash a backing plate... Almost set the car on fire, but senses prevailed. 1 stub shaft and inner bearing and I'm back in business. Odd thing is, the driver side shaft could be pressed out with the push of a thumb.

Broke out the tubing bender and got to running new lines and brakes.

Picked up some goodies over the weekend, nick told me a guy was getting ready to unload a bunch of VW parts. Picked up a clean set of dual port heads, an AE case and an OE heater shroud.

Eyeing up 1776/1915 kits at the moment.


Split the case, everything looks good. Just need to get specs and some machine work taken care of.

Hello 4x4 beetle:


Had some friends help me lower the body down as the pan was finished. Chassis-Body fitment was spot-on.


Quick shot from outside.


Planning of lows and fitment are not forgotten. Will most likely reindex the rear arms, and use drop spindles with an adjustable beam in the front.

Within the next month I expect to have final sheet metal fitment dialed in and the car in primer.

Inching towards primer and paint! I've managed to get a bunch of odd and ends finished, and the car is ready for final body work. The stance rash is flaring up like a bad case of the herpes, beam adjusters and drop spindles will that care of that quite nicely.

Had massage the new rear fenders, but all is well.

Been a long minute since I've updated, figured I'd post up a quick teaser of the deck lid after cutting and buffing. Paint is almost 100% done, just have to lay down another coat of base and clear on the body and color sand the car. The Ossiblau DBC/DCU2021 combination really pops in the sun!
