It's been a good while since I've done an update on this build thread. Just finally found my dslr charger, so I've been able to start shooting pictures of progress again. There's been a fair amount of ups and downs since the last update so I'll let the pictures do most of the talking. P.S. Fuck Rust.
The front nose piece had some cancer, so I sectioned the rot out and made patches using 20ga mild.

one of the patches- pre cancer underneath the seam sealer has been ground away as well...

Got a new toy for the shop for xmas- this gun will outperform most 1/2 air impacts!

Pans have been coated and are ready to be welded onto the chassis

Just a small amount of the patchwork I've had to do: mainly to the fender fastener panels.

Initial tacks

Filled and cleaned, awaiting a skim of evercoat.

More to come...Last edited by Leftouch; 02-07-2013, 06:47 PM.

Some more patch work:

Rough grind passes after tacking, never took any pics of smooth passes and skim coat.

And now I bring you to one of the MAJOR issues I've found thus far. The passenger side rear quarter was in rough shape and needed a lot of fresh sheet metal. I figured no big deal, it's only a little more welding? WRONG!
I went to grind away some paint to start drawing lines and found the great wall of bondo. Three layers, roughly 1/4" thick.

After grinding away 10 tons of bondo, what I was left with was a relatively straight panel, albeit needed some straightening but the sheer amount of bondo was insane.

Sealing the inner quarter area before I weld in the outer skin:

Small update:
Patch Panel work/rust removal is 99% done! After what seemed like an eternity, I've finished all the necessary sectioning and grafting of new sheet metal.
Shot a few sides of the car with a high solids primer,
1. to seal the first evercoat pass
2.to see how my body work had turned out.

Was pretty happy with the initial priming, a little more time with the air file and a skim of Rage Coat and she'll be a straight car. Didn't completely sand away all the ever coat, still have some rough work to take care of.

Cleaned and stripped frame

Fresh coat of undercoating and paint, need to fix the rust spots at the bulkhead.

Under Coating stripped in problem areas (a bit backasswards, I know. Haven't had many decent days for painting and I wanted to get it sprayed before any flash rust set in).

Started stripping the wheels- ran into a bit of a problem. Can't seem to find a decent stripper anywhere/more; the current stuff I'm using is shit... Mar-hyde used to sell a product: tal-strip, which was a phenomenal stripper but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Anybody know of a better stripper?

Thanks man, I'm so glad to be done with it, after I finish my dad's 2002, I'm done with rustorations. A clean shell is a beautiful thing lol.Originally posted by P78 View Postcool build

I remember they used to sell it in cans when I worked there, but I can't find it anymore? I need to look a little closer next time I stop by there.Originally posted by cobrawannabe View PostTal-Strip II is still available at Advance Auto Parts, IIRC.
Hey, I'll pay Amber or Skye or Diamond, hell if she can strip the old paint off these wheels I'd pay tens of dollars.Originally posted by Nick475 View Posti know a better stripper. but she will cost you a lot
Patched the bulk head holes while I still had some daylight
