I bought this car in July after searching for a clean one for a couple of months. I was very pleased to find this grey market import euro e24. My last car was this 89 325i with an M50B25TU swap.

The car was very quick and a blast to drive but, soon after the build, I decided I wanted to try the 'low and slow' thing for a while.

I ended up buying this e24 with a bad exhaust leak and a clunk in the rear end.

The exhaust leak turned out to be a broken downpipe flange. Lots of wrestling with the exhaust and 5 minutes of welding fixed that problem. I replaced all of the shifter bushings and put a new z3 shifter in it while the exhaust was out. The clunk from the rear end, luckily, was the differential mount. I gave the car some plugs and wires, an oil change, and a battery.

Next came the real work. After going back and for between coils and air, I caved and spent the money on a full Airlift setup for the car. With all of the information on this site, the job was not a huge deal. A bit of cutting, a bit of welding, and now the car can get down on the ground as well as make it over the big transition at the end of my driveway.

I got a very good deal on some 16x8 style 5s so I figured I'd rock them while refinishing the fittipaldi wheels. The problem is, now I really like the look of them on the car. I think they will stay until I can get some cash together for some M system turbine wheels.

I've got a laundry list of little problems to address still; non-op gauge cluster, exhaust rattle, idle is a little rough, front passenger brake is dragging, and I need some big spacers for the rear wheels to get them flush.

Thanks guys, this was my first attempt at air ride and I think it was a huge success. Now I just need to sort out the rest of the problems the car. Front brake caliper is hanging up, exhaust is rattling, and I don't have any reliable gauges. But otherwise....

Last weekend I changed out the front calipers and drove the car around a bit. It is having some trouble returning to center, but this may be because I forgot to grease the pivot on the upper strut mounts. I'm also running a little lower height for driving so I'll be doing an alignment again as well.

On a cosmetic note, I sprayed the high beams yellow to give the front end a little color.

baby steps...so far this week I gave the car it's first wash since I've owned it and I replaced the driver's door seal that has been whistling in my ear on the highway. I also cleaned up the grounds on and it seems to be running a little better new. Next up is to get the right new engine mounts and fix the broken exhaust hanger in the back.

                        UPDATE!

After searching for a while, I finally got my hands on a set of M-System turbine covers and a set of forged wheels to put them on. I'm not completely happy with the current tire fitment on them, but it should do for now. Obviously the wheels and the covers need to be refinished as well but here are some initial test fit shots.

Like I said, the 245/45/17s are a pretty beefy fitment. I may put some 225/45/17s on the front to get a little more clearance.

I wish they made 1 piece 17 inch style 5s. That would be my ideal wheel for this car. Unfortunately I **** the 3 piece version.
