  • Did two events this past weekend. Piedmont drift and Driftaholics at VIR. Both events were fun. Piedmont didn't go so well. Probably my 5th or 6th run of the day I bent my tie rod, it bound up on the control arm, made the car hop, and got the wheel stuck on the frame.

you can see it happen in this video. Notice how one wheel is wayyyy out.

So I need to figure out a plan for those. Whether it be keeping spares or having custom ones made.

    finished the day unscathed otherwise.

friend of mine slammed his car into the only telephone pole on the whole course. Not a fun day for him.

Couple of videos I got while the car wasn't up on jack stands.

next day I went up to VIR with my buddy. Showed up like 2 hours late. I thought the track was going to be really slow and small. It was actually pretty fast, really good use of space. Only problem was how the event was being run. No run groups, no spin out rule, if you didn't know what you were doing (which was about 75% of the people you basically got 2 minutes to do whatever you wanted. So burnouts, donuts, driving in circles, whatever. Also two cars were automatic and two others were open diff. It was kind of a mess. I had a great time though. Linked the track first try ( also the first one at the event to do i.) Ran some tandem and did some sketchy stuff.

We got bored so my friend in the e30 and I decided to mix it up a bit.

    and some pictures.

    • Well I was busy this weekend. Got the turbo on after about 36 hours of work. Fixed my oil pan, got a new motor mount (3 years later), and of course a nice shiny turbo. Made a custom adapter manifold. It spools very quickly and boost has been very consistent (when I've actually hit it) I;m waiting on my intercooler and a few more hoses to show up. Until then I'm babying the car. I was watching my intake air temps on the laptop and they're getting up to about 100 degrees. I really don't want to blow this thing up. But anyways here are a few pictures of the build, it's ridiculously fast now. So happy to finally have power.

      and a video

Next on my list of stuff to get

      1. ARP and MLS
      2. Clutch
      3. Exhaust
      4. Camber & Toe Adjusters for the rear.

Also need to put my new knuckles on and find an event to do.

      • Fingers crossed on my welds, Heat wrapped the manifold last weekend to try and keep some heat away from the oil lines and the plug wires, going to probably wrap the exhaust, or just wait until I get my steel to do a real downpipe. Probably going to order stainless steel in a few months and attempt a nicer manifold. I want to maybe go balls out and try and make a true twin scroll. But first I need to work on my tig welding. I just started using it a few weeks ago.

Car is running very well so far. It comes into boost insanely fast. Still waiting on my intercooler. I still haven't taken a real hit or anything, really don't want to blow it up. But it's been running pretty well. I've been messing around on the VE analyze live and it's starting to work the fuel map out. Once I get the intercooler on I'll start to push it a little more. Hopefully if all goes according to plan I'll have it ready for hyperfest on may 2nd. Still need to get a lot done.

Fixed my front valence. So happy it's metal, I was able to bend it back fairly easily. It's not perfect, but it's better than being crushed.

also picking a second turd up next weekend, super excited. 86 or 87 535is. Going to turn it into a missile to destroy at all the local small tracks. Currently on cut springs  going to have to figure out some sort of cheapo suspension.
going to rob the windshield, tail lights, passenger rear door, hood, and front valence to put on my car before it gets painted.

what a bute. Super excited about the M-striped hood.... :

        • This may sound really stupid, but few questions for you:

          1. Is this car even street legal anymore? I have been wanting to order a 4-6 point cage for my rear and my insurance doesn't want to touch it at all.
          2. Was it tough to pass inspection while having stripped interior? All of my interior (carpet, seats, side panels) were wrecked from previous owner. (I think a cat pissed on the seats, let it dry, and now the leather cracks off like a potato chip.. lol)

Love the car though, congrats on the turbo build!

I can get it to pass but it hasn't been expected in two years. I only drive it to events or shows. It really depends on what state you live in, In NC all you really have to have is a windshield to pass safety. Technically you have to have cats but about 70% of the inspectors here don't even check.

Interior will not matter so long as you have seatbelts, which I do. You do have to have an odometer, I think. no clue though. When I do finally get this inspected I'm probably going to have to borrow the odo out of the missile I'm getting.

Ah, I got ya, did you tell insurance about the roll bar? Statefarm doesn't want to touch it with a 30foot pole based on just that.

I heard I should be fine passing safety in PA, but I could definitely foresee it being a problem, because PA is PA... lol

No way, don't even mention it has anything done to it. Just say it's an ordinary car and you drive it from point a to point b.

Ahaha, yeah I figured I'd have to do that. I'll just get a different agent when I need to insure it I suppose. If I get in a wreck, i'll just bolt it in so it's easily removable.. lol

It's only gonna be driven in the summer on nice days so, that should minimize crashing...

Thanks for the help man! Good luck furthering your build!

                  • I picked up a second turd!
                    85 535is 5 speed, 186k on the working odometer!
Supposedly PO lost the key sold it to a friend and then that friend sold it to me after taking the spoiler. Went to pick it up, within five minutes of cleaning the five million pounds of trash out of the car, found a key and trailered it home. Got home hooked it up to a battery and it started first try. Runs like a champ other than being low on just about every fluid and having bad gas. It's in great shape, has power e34 seats, windows work, nice sound system. The only thing that isn't working is the sunroof. Paint is meh, hood is meh, and I have to give the wheels and the diff back, also meh. But I have tons of extra wheels and I'm picking a diff up next weekend. Hopefully I'll have the car road worthy in a month. Have to wait for the title to be recovered and get it put in my name.

Plans for this thing include, my old pfeba valence, taurus side skirts, some sort of front lip, my old euro bumpers, coilovers, and new bushings all over, after that, we'll be hitting the track and using it as a support vehicle when I break stuff on the white car.

interior is in good shape. No that's no a crackless dash. It's a plastic cover.

After a quick wash, man was this thing disgusting.

                    They instantly became friends.

                          • So ive never owned a bmw. Only vw has worked with my wallet. But came across an e28 that is in fuckin retarded good shape. 76000 original miles. I just had to try it out. Bought it with a clutch problem. Throwout bearing took a dump. So i fixed it aaaand now that its up and running and drivable ive gotta get rid of it. So thought it post this here and see if anyone checking out this thread is looking for an e28 build. Im a trans/engine builder for a gm dealership so i know my way around cars a little.

You'd probably have a bit better luck in the For Sale thread, depending on what's on it, you could probably dump it pretty quickly.
