  • Volvo S70. Slow Progress.

I told myself I wouldn't start a build thread till I had picked up a project car. Just now starting college, it doesn't look like that will be happening anytime soon.

So I figured since I had a somewhat decent car and have never had a build thread before, that I guess I could start one now.

And by no means will this be some awesome thread where I buy $2,000 wheels and coilover or air suspension. This is basically just to document where the car started until one the day I sell it.

But if you guys like it then hey, knock yourselves out.

So I guess I should introduce the car itself now.
THIS WILL BE THE SLOWEST THREAD EVER. I promise you.
    __________________________________________________ ___________________________

The car is a 1998 Volvo S70 GLT.
It had around 103,000 miles on it.
Found it on craigslist when I first got my permit.
Here are some photos the day I got it.

The interior was pretty clean except for some soda stains on the carpet which came out super easily with some foamy carpet cleaner.

Im pretty sure the first thing I ever got were these door lock pins and bezels. Even though my car isnt an R design.....shhhhhhh

    Then I got a europlate

    And Blacked out the grille.

When I first got it, the bumpers were a little rough and pretty scraped on the bottoms. After about a year I got tired of it and wanted to clean it up a little.

So I decided to repaint the front bumper, with textured black satin around the bottoms all round.

    Sanded

    Sides

And this is how it looks on the bottoms.

Paint finished and back home with painted calipers, nothing special brake wise.

Time passed, probably a year or so.
And The paint on the grille started to chip. So I tried sandblasting it and all that did was melted the grille and made it completely unusable. So I rode around with no grille for a bit and then upgraded to a crate style grille with no volvo slash.

Photoshopped for the heck of it. Why not.

So then I started to clean up the engine bay.
Basically all I did was clean with a wet rag and sprayed anything black with tire foam. Then used some degreaser remove some dryed oil caked in the corner of the spark plug cover. Then just recovered the wire with new flex tubing.

    Then replaced some interior bulbs.

Then I got some side markers

Then my friend whose got an 08' C30 T5R which is actually for sale here:

Got some new center caps and he let me have his OEM ones which are the new volvo style. So I switched them out.

Then after a couple months my front bumper had just looked horrible again because the primer we used for the previous paint job was no good and the paint wouldnt stick to it. By that time all the textured black around the bottoms had faded to grey. So we put the car back in the garage and resprayed the front bumper, using different primer this time, and respraying all the textured black with satin black.

Also the hood had some scratches and dents that were there when I got it. So we removed the hood and painted it also.

And finished with the plate back on.

And mod wise that leads us up to today, where I had sprayed the old slash flat black to put back onto the grille and removed the plate to clean up the front end a bit.
        Photos from today:

Future plans within the next couple months include yellow fogs, wheels & tires, spacers, repaint the calipers silver.

there is nothing wrong with this build thread...I like this platform and cannot wait to see where this goes next!

Cleaning up the car turned out pretty well! I would do some kind of roof liner inside and def leave that woodgrain!

Wheel choice looks solid as well as new brake caliper color(silver), When you do drop it, what do you plan on using?

                  Suspension is a touchy subject.
I know a lot of people talk about how bad the roads are where they live but still manage.

Where I live, you have to take at least one side street or back road with holes about 1-2 inches deep because my county has no many. Something as simple as going to walmart would leave me having to park on the interstate and walk half a mile.

With the stock ride height on the car, the main reason i painted the bottoms was to hide all the tears and scratches from scrapes. I wish you could see the entrance to the taco bell.

but seriously, if I lowered my car even an inch, i couldnt even get into the commuter parking lot of the college ill be going to.

I recently just had an E28 drop into my life. By Recently i mean yesterday around noon. If all goes well, that will be the car ill drop. So at least ill have one car that i can still go places in.

So the e28 didn't fall through. Wanted to much for it with an engine that was locked up.

Still looking for wheels. Did a photoshop. Definitely dig these wheels.

I love to bag my car but on the other hand id rather spend that money on another car. something old with some character.

Cleaned the fogs also. Left Is Cleaned. Probably never been cleaned. Or removed from the car for that matter.
