Jambs got sprayed Friday, curing over the weekend. My painter Mark wanted to spend the extra time taping to do them with the car all assembled in order to avoid chipping the bolt heads putting it back together. That's the kind of attention to detail I really appreciate, dude does an amazing job. I'll certainly grab a stack of his cards to hand out locally.
The car should be sprayed today or tomorrow. I can't wait to get it back and go to town on the final touches but I'm already so excited about this color.
Wow, this is an awesome build. Just picked up a MK2 Coupe the other day and swapped the Westy on her as well! Can't wait to see it once it's painted. Should look about as good as it gets! Very, very nice work sir.
thanks man! I figured it was time for a Westy as it's the one front I've never had before. I have a dual round and aero setup too if I ever feel like changing it up. This is my 3rd MK2 and I basically wanted to just make the one I always wanted.

Tonight I got the exhaust all painted and bolted on, here's a few pictures of how it sits, and holy crap the thing is solid. Major improvement over the one I had on the red car.
I also put the rear speakers in the car just to get em off the shelf (Infinity Kappa component 6.5") and mounted the crossovers in the trunk. Some of the blocking got done too.
This week has been majorly f'ed up in my personal life. I'm doing my best to stay on schedule with this car. It's been difficult but this is the update I've really been waiting for.
We finished the prep and my buddy Adam laid down the first coats of primer last night. It's tough doing this in my garage with no control of humidity. We had 2 water separators and still saw a droplet here and there we'll have to sand out. This is why the car will be going to a professional shop to be sprayed next week. It's so exciting to see the car all one color, and to see everything we shaved disappear for good.
2.25" header-back exhaust - done
that's a resonator up front. 1987 so no emissions/cat needed in CT
stainless Borla out back. I'm not sure what I want to do for a tip yet, may just leave the 2.25" aluminized for now.
also the car is getting its first coat of primer tonight! excited to see it all one color. pics to follow.
dropping off the door cards today to get them repaired. Hoping my buddy Pete can work some magic because Pirelli Edition door cards are super hard to come by and worth an exorbitant amount of money!
I have an official date for paint: April 15th! That should leave me with 2 weeks for final assembly before Staggered (the first show I want to go to) and a solid month of road time before SoWo.
so excited the car is getting there but so stressful.
tonight's project was put some vapor barrier foam in to deaden the sound and provide a little cushion. the new carpet is here so the interior is going in this weekend. I don't care if it's a little premature, it's gotta get done sometime.
