    • As a child, one of my favorite movies was "American Tail," in which there is a song sung by a bunch of mice with the lyric, "There are nooooo cats in A-mer-i-ca, where the streets are paved with chee-eese..."

I used to sing it all the time.

That song, that fantastic, catchy little song, was a damn lie.

            • Keeping the progress game on lock. Put in that racer boy steering wheel and re-assembled the lower dash.

MOMO, Nardi, Recaro. Gettin' real "race" in that cockpit. Also started prepping the underside of the hood. Going to paint it while it's still off of the car. It had this furry foam shit on the underside for heat protection or whatever. Can't paint over that, so off it comes.

It was about right there, covered in little particles of that stuff, that I realized this was going to be really labor-intensive. So I changed over to a paint stripping wheel on my grinder and went at it. Made a MASSIVE mess. Had to get out the shop-vac to suck up the remains.

There was still a thin layer of adhesive and foam stuck to it. Figured gasoline would take it off. I was right, and accidentally made napalm in the process.

                • Pulled out this goofy tar ring thing I found under my spare tire. No idea what it was there for. Weighed a solid 20+ pounds.

I was getting ready to mount my battery box and came across some rust spots I'll need to deal with in the future. This car is relatively solid, but still has a few trouble spots.

Then I got distracted and painted the underside of my hood. color:

                  clear:

Also ordered an aluminum radiator since mine has a leak and I haven't been able to drive it because it spews coolant everywhere. I did take it around the block... Literally around the block. tools and stuff still on the windshield wipers, no hood, dirty, no functioning lights, etc. made it LITERALLY to the end of my street and turned to go LITERALLY AROUND ONE BLOCK, and a cop pulled out from behind a house and started following me. Evidently, since I left some ground unhooked or crossed some wires or something, my brake lights stay on and I don't have blinkers. He wanted to ask a bunch of questions and I was like "I LITERALLY LIVE RIGHT THERE. THAT'S MY HOUSE. I WAS GOING AROUND THE BLOCK TO MAKE SURE THE CLUTCH AND STUFF WAS WORKING. I JUST REBUILT THIS ENTIRE DRIVETRAIN. LITERALLY. JUST. DID IT."

                  damnit, Darla.

yeah I've had a few run-ins with the law, but this cop was understanding. He was just like "well turn it around and don't get it out on the street again till the lights work."

                          That's a rare occurrence.
