Yeah, it has happened to other people that I know that used to have beetles too. Seems it is a common occurrence, which sucks!

But you're right, sometimes I thought they looked cool, they actually did when I didn't have the bumper on it, but I really like the tombstone style now, however I'll be putting the elephant feet style on the new body.

Is the central locking pneumatic or electric?
The compressors and vacuum lines and everything that are part of oem central locking systems seem like a really complicated way to solve a simple problem, I've always wondered why they just didn't run wires to a motor in the door...

Oh it'll have all these cool new things on the outside too, just a matter of hiding all the new stuff if you get what I mean.

The central locking is electric. Beetle's never had central locking or a security system, not the old ones anyway.

damnit, people suck. I had a similar thing happen to an old civic of mine which I had just repainted. It actually got stolen and then parked in a party neighborhood and some drunk idiot walked on it and dented the hood pretty badly. Oh well, at least I got the car back. Nice progress!

Got a little further with the wheels today. Haven't test fitted the front yet, but did the rear and they will be tucking nicely.

I did, however, pull two apart and start cleaning them up. Don't think Mum was too happy I was using the lounge out the back as a wheel shop.









Test fitting the other two tomorrow. Will take some photos and see how it goes.
As for wheels, looking at Nankang's. 165/40/r16. Will have some serious stretch.

Alrighty, test fitted the wheels today!

From the side, reckon I could go down another inch or so. We'll see what happens...




From the front, she tucks in nicely and has a tiny bit of negative camber.


And now for some underneath shots. It clears the strut easily, but has taken my full lock down to half the original. In regards to the front, there are is one more issue that needs to be resolved and that is where the brake line is mounted. Have to move it up so it won't cut up the tire,


And at the rear, where the bump stop hits the top of the tower, that we need to trim so that when the wheel has travel, it doesn't hit the inside of the barrel.

Can't wait to see how the RS's look on there.

Not a fan of the gauge cluster or LED's - I feel like these things look best all-original. But I can't wait to see it completed none the less!
