So nothing too crazy the last couple of days... been pretty busy at work and not too much money to throw the 510s way so the build is a little slower. I have been trying to add parts and fix things up with items I already have since I wouldnt have to spend any money.

Took my OEM sills to work and sand blasted them. Now there are perfectly clean and rust free. In the 6mo Ive owned the car, this is the first time the sills have been on. I straightened them out and hammered as many of the larger dings out as I could... still not perfect, but better than nothing:

Then I sold a few items so I snapped a picture with my phone while I was at the post office:

Then when I got off of work this morning I decided that I was tired of the noise, cold, draft of having no weather stripping in the car. I had a pair of door seals just sitting in the garage, but I knew it was going to be a pain so I left them in the box. Anyway, finally decided to install them:

And thats about where I stand. I found out that the knob on my column shifter is cracked so I could use a new one of those, but I think Im going to pick up a streamline manual shifter know to replace it. I just have to see what the threading is for a manual shift knob. Does anyone know? My column threading is M8x1.25

Amazing. This is exactly how a datsun should be built imo

          Thanks Aaron.

Unfortunately the passenger-side seal was a bigger pain to install than the drivers-side. It didn't want to stay in the track and when using the adhesive, it was not as tacky as it seemed it should have been. Anyway, I just scrapped and will try again in the future.

I actually have a line on a set thats even better (read: larger, dishier, rarer). Its going to take some work to fit them though... Im going to need to drop the car even more, cut my fenders, and fit some flares. Other than being expensive, its pretty easy.

My biggest issue is that the rear fender wells are part of how the rear door shuts and seals. So I might need to forgo the use of my rear doors and just keep them sealed the whole time. Im going to have to cut the fender, wheel well, and door itself. Then install the flare over the door seam and slice it to allow the door to open (or at least look like it will open).
this is how it was with my old ke70 but we just took the front arches off the fenders cut out the rears and welded the fronts in. then used Mk2 gti fender arches for the front. was alot easier than ripping and cutting and welding and smashing and bashing to make them work. these two cars are alot alike. people have done fender flares on them. you should def check out some ke70 threads great car though man love it

                    Thanks everyone!

Speaking of the steering wheel, today after work I should be taking my stock unit apart to see of I can design my own hub. I don't currently have the cash to buy my own, so looks like a fab job is in order. Should be pretty easy I think... I won't know until I pull the wheel apart to see how everything connects up.

And speaking of custom fab, I made these the last couple of days while at work:

Ok, here we go... a little story before the pictures. The door lock pulls were horse shit in my car. They were dry, cracked, sun-bleached white in some places so I decided to pick up some new ones. I only knew of two places to get them. There were OEM replacements available at a merchant whom most do not do business with and a member on Ratsun who made aluminum ones. Well, I ***** the style that were offered over on Ratsun (Im sure they were great quality), so I bought them from the other guy.

Needless to say, they sucked. I know he doesnt make them himself, so I really dont fault him, but they felt cheap and crappy, a few barely threaded on... they sucked.

So I decided on a style I wanted and cut my own. I can now call myself a real machinist now as I have officially designed the part, setup to machine from scratch, cut the part manually, and finished them myself. All work done by me and I think they came out fantastic. 100% happy with them. I have a bit more bar stock left so Im contemplating making a decent run of them. We shall see what happens, but either way Im loving them so far. Onto the pictures:

                    OEM reproduction:

                    Parts I designed and cut:

                    Blurry closeup (sorry):

                    Locked:

                    Unlocked:

                    Outside in the rain picture:

They are currently a mostly shiny silver from the cutting process, but Im probably going to brush them up to match my sill plates.

About 2min with a set of calipers measuring the OEM piece, 1min sketching up the actual design on a scratch piece of paper, and a quick thought on how to actually cut it out on my lathe. Maybe 4min. total. Took me way longer to actually cut them. Especially since I've had requests from others to make some for them so even more time cutting.

OEM lock pulls for a member here:

                              Column shift knob:

No installed pics of the shift knob as I have yet to tap it. I also need to make a turn signal knob so everything matches. All this should be done tonight/tomorrow morning while I'm at work.
