Really want to get an older Benz, drop it (cut springs and then possibly bags later on) and use it as an occasional 2nd car. Minimal weekday use and weekend cruising. Don't want a show car.
In your experience is this a dumb idea for someone not very mechanically inclined but willing to learn? I don't have tons of money to dump into something like this.
As always, great work on this. Looks like a ton of fun to drive/own.

The diesels (220D and the 240D) are crazy slow. I had a 240D as my first real car and it definitely required planning as you drove. See that red light 1/2 mile ahead? Get off the accelerator and MAYBE it will turn green before you get to it so you don't have to stop. See that hill in the distance? Start speeding up now so you're not doing 35 at the top.
I loved that car.

i considered it, but i hear the diesels are crazy slow. the recent carb problem i think is my own fault for running the tank dry. the holley carb works great otherwise.

This is what I've been looking for. Your write ups are going to be so helpful when I find my w115.
Did you consider getting a diesel? I've read they are more reliable. (No carb problems)

Everyday lately has been a new problem with the car none problematic enough for actual concern, a few days a go it ran out of gas since it has a slight sputter with light throttle, the paint is chipped on the drivers fender from rubbing the tire and there is a rip in the bottom or the drivers seat. I guess it's not that bad. I'm just feeling over it.

I'm finding it hard to think of words to describe how great I think this car is. Nevertheless, know that I love it.

I've already got a condo booked, definitely going with my audi, hopefully this will be worthy of making the drive by then as well.
