So Its been a while to say the least. I've been working on other things in life and kinda lost interest for a bit. I even went as far as thinking about selling the beast. I came to the conclusion that weather I love it or **** it I have to finish it either way. Working over 40 hr work weeks and then spending another 40+ hrs a week working on the Jetta just got old. I wasn't going to car meets, seeing friends, and well all work and no play makes for a bad time. If it isn't a labor of love then why bother right? That being said for the last 3 weeks I've set out to try and get back into the groove of things. I do actually want to drive it and drag it. I need to see it finished! so I started to set some small goals to accomplish each week. This week I cleaned the garage and put the car on jack stands. That was the first goal. For the next week I wanted to mock up the new ladder bar set up for the rear suspension. This is the final piece to the puzzle for the rear suspension to work. The previous pictures show a less then operational product.
The picture below shows the new plan. I Had some pieces of 3x4 decked by a mill and one off spacers made by my friends the "Meakers"! I did find a slight flaw in my design and improvised. I tacked it in for now to mock up and test fit. Next week my friends for further updates

    My messy Garage.

Front shot with a better image of the post and wheels I had to put on the jetta to move it to install the new garage door.

The bolt heads created a space issue you will see later in the build.

Its always when I want to work on her I cant. I was able to put a little time in and wanted to show just how long things take. first I started out with a plate of steel. I had to cut this plate off a larger piece. the total time I have in start to tacked was 3.0hrs the other side still needs to get fitted.

This is a side by side shot of the old frame rails I took about 1 inch off the front and tapered down.

I removed the undercoating to prep for welding.

      Tacked and ready for welding.

Keep it up garret. I've been watching it on and off for a while. Quite the rabbit hole indeed. But all things said and done its going to be sick, an even if you do end up selling it. At least you finished what you started. Great so far! Sub'd
        When in doubt lower it!

          Thanks!

I put the S10 up for sale and picked up something new...... The s10 is SOLD! btw

          I hope it sells soon.

This is the new whip vs the old whip. I got it with the intention of just driving it till the Jetta is finished. Its a 2011 Tacoma X-Runner

I only got the other side tacked in and now to weld and grind...

I have been putting off a lot of work due to the larges obstacle for me was getting the rear suspension worked out and operational.
Finally! one of the largest hurdles has been over come! I finally figured out the rear suspension problem. I believe I'm on version 3.2? any ways I'm trying to work on it once a week even if only for a few hours at a time. I mocked up what will be a temp set up. When this wears out Ill build something that is more serviceable. Either way I'm totally excited to see this is now functional! this is the trailing arm for the rear mocked and set up to adapt the 07 suspension. This is the final piece to the rear suspension and how I can make it work. enjoy

That looks like it will bend when you hit the first big bump in the road.

Its not a load bearing piece. The purpose of it is to keep the wheel from moving forwards and backwards. I can gusset it but I don't think it will need it.

Thanks! That is one of the reasons I started this project in the direction I took it. I wanted to see something different.

pictures! yay! A huge thank you to my friend Anthony for making the initial hole for the tank and making the brackets to mount the tank. I made the small 1/4 frame due to the deck being very flimsy when cut into. I was working on a separate part of the Jetta not finished with yet so no pictures of that.

To keep the rust from building up due to florida's lovely humidity I cleaned off all the bare metal with ospho... It is a really cool product. It is not how ever good to get on bare skin even with using gloves and covering myself it still got me.
you can see what was covered and what was not. next some primer even though I still have some cleaning up to do.
