  • My W124 E300 diesel build

Picked up this original E300 diesel and sadly got rid of my cube. Looking for some advice on wheels and stance setup for those who have had experience with this chassisl. I also don't want to modify any existing parts on the car to fit wheels or suspension except for maybe a fender roll.

So far I think the set up in going for is bilstein struts and b&g springs for the lowest setup if I'm correct, unless someone else knows a better set up. Does anyone know the max offset for wheels I could use too?
Much appreciated. I'll update my build periodically.

Best offsets for the w124 are anything et30-40, I dropped mine on Vogtlands and konis, rides just as good as stock plus it gave me a significant drop. I'm currently on 18" staggered monos which will fit perfectly w/out a fender roll. Good luck love diesels

I love the w124 models. I have to get the head gasket rebuilt unfortunately due to a leak, otherwise the car looks immaculate.

The combo you are on is that the lowest setup you can go and Is it a simple bolt on?

I don't know if it's the lowest bolt on set-up but I know it is a little bit lower of a drop than the H&R springs for our cars. They also just started making coil overs for our cars but haven't heard of anyone running them, brand is yellow jacket or something like that... You can also run e36 coils. Search S|W there's a write up about it

I don't know how your going to get in/out your drive when you lower it I had the same problem with my slammed volvo S40 phase 2 (now sold) as it could not get into a garage, so I used some steel board in order for it to get over the extreme angle.

          your w124 looks good!

I was thinking about my driveway, my cube was able to get in barely and it was slammed, but the front and rear sticks out a ton more on the Merc.

I am not sure about coilovers because I would not want all that weight resting on just the strut tower mounts if you know what I mean. Seems Dangerous.

Found a set of 18" Carlssons for $400 but need refinishing, think it's a good deal? Kind of typical w124 wheel though.

That is the ride height I would like to achieve without have to cut coils or anything crazy.

you need to go lower than that. You can use springs frm w210. Here are some of my friends s124 300 turbodiesels:

I would like to be that low, but I don't want to mess up this car since it is my daily and I like being static. Air ride would be nice, but that would require drilling and modifying parts of the car.

Yes, the cube is gone. it was fun but everything started shitting out on the car at once so I sold it and got more for the car than I would have if I repaired it.

Well I guess that's a good enough reason. Sucks though, that thing was sick.

I lowered mine by 40mm with AP springs and stock shocks.

Best ET for wheels would be ET35. ET45 or higher will pull on the steeringwheel and deletes the self-centering effect. The max you can go with ET45 on the front is 7,5" on 17's otherwise you'll scrape the front shocks...
As for the rear, you'll be amazed by the space you have for massively fat tyres.

Tip; try and error=the best way to find out..
