      • Man, those fenders are coming out on point. Bagged on bbs...this car will knock them out in the aesthetics department.

                    • Alright guys, finally got some time to post an update.

Quarter panel work, here we go.

I started out by shaving the areas that still needed it, first being the blinker holes:

                      Cut out some filler metal:

                      Welded up:

                      And smooth:

Next were the lower trim holes, filled and smoothed:

Then I proceeded to take everything down to bare metal. It took me several hours, as I'm not exactly using the most efficient and timely method (DA sander and 60 grit pads). A sandblaster is kind of out the question right now, so I gotta use the resources I have. Whatever, it's therapeutic, I guess haha.

And then it was filler time. I'm learning that filler work really just isn't my forte. It's proven to be very difficult to make things look perfect, but I'm doing as good as I can:

Then I laid down some primer. Like the rest of the body, I'd say it's about 90% there. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this yet, but I'm planning on doing all the body work as good as I can, and then taking it to a professional to have them finish up the body work so it's perfect and ready for paint. Then I will paint it myself. As much as I'd like to do everything on my own, I want the body to look good once it's painted:

And just a few random shots of my daily e30 looking rough and grungy after installing an IS lip and splitter. I love it haha:

                      More to come next week!

                        • now this is my own 2cent's, but i think you should do something extra..

Shave the gas filler hole... and integrate it into behind the tail light.. put the light on a hinge, and when you go to fill up, flip the light down fill it up, flip the light back up... or shave the hole, and use a fuel cell in the trunk.. keep the body shaved and clean

would look good considering all the other body shaving your doing

p.s, i like your e30, I'm looking into getting one of my own

                          • Wow, I love both your 2002 and E30, yet another thread on this darned forum to make me want to go BMW again for my next car lol. Along with wanting to learn how to weld.

Incredible work man, looking forward to seeing more.

                            • Stop doing such a sexy job
It should be interesting to see what happens when you take the car to a body shop. They'll probably remove some of your work (Not because you've done poor work, just because they will want to do it themselves). Anyways, keep it up Cubby! Your updates never disappoint

I've definitely considered that exact setup multiple times. As cool as the idea is, something is telling me to just keep it in it's original spot. I think I'm going to leave it how it is.

Get an e30! Such awesome cars. I love mine, I just wish it had more power (mine is the 318is, which is a gutless 4-cylinder but very efficient). There are plenty of swap options though

Thanks man! I've loved owning my BMWs, although I've only driven my 2002 once. Don't get me wrong, I still have an undying urge to own a VW R32 again, but I'm super pumped on my BMW's.

As for welding, just do it. Invest in a decent setup and go for it. It's really just a matter of practice and understanding how it all works. I've learned so much about it just by doing it over and over. I love it, and it's such a good skill to know.

I've thought the same thing, I wonder how it will all work out. It's even slightly possible that I'll just man up and complete the body work myself, but as of right now I'm opting towards taking it to a pro for the final stages. Thank you though!
