    • I've been MIA but just caught up on this, love this thing so much. Over the winter my dad and I picked up a 72 2002 and we are looking at a 76 which is a bit rougher this weekend. I'm wanting to do something like you did to the 76, amazing build so far, love every bit of it.

E-Level is substantially more accurate than a pressure based system such as Autopilot

          My thoughts exactly

Yep. If anyone wants to dispute that, I will gladly go into detail about why pressure based systems are inferior.

            • Instal bags, setup 1-way line adapters, inflate bags til proper height reach, update thread
You can worry about managing the air that goes in and out afterwards. Haha

Likewise, there is nothing more accurate than running a system based solely off height sensors. When height and pressure sensors work together, they end up working against each other in certain situations. There are a lot of variables that effect pressure, whereas height is a single factor. If your height sensor reads that you're not at your preset height, then the system either adds or subtracts the right amount of air to get it back to the exact height that it should be. There's more to it, but that's the general idea.

That's probably what I'll end up doing. I'm ordering management this week but I'm thinking about installing the bags and just running the airline straight to a schrader valve until the car is basically done, and then focus on management.

                  • I've got autopilot on my e30 and I love it but even I can't argue the advantages of e-level. Your 02 is super dope!

It's not to say that autopilot is a terrible system at all, it works fine for tons of people. It's just when you really start to compare the two, it becomes pretty obvious which one is superior. I actually worked at AccuAir for a few months in 2011 and am still pretty close with all the dudes there. They just taught me all the ins and outs of their system and all the others out there. I'm really not biased, it's just the best management system for several reasons.

                      • Nice work on the rust. I respect all who tackle rust, because once you start digging in it can be never ending.

That should def be your next update.
How well do the bags hold air when setup like that?

Just fine, as long as the fittings are sealed properly. You could technically run bags straight off schrader valves permanently but that wouldn't be any fun haha.

                            • Just read this whole bish. Holy shit man great work. From where it's started, to where it is now is absolutely amazing. I don't think I've ever been more anxious for updates on a build, so thanks for that

Wow thanks man! That means a lot.

I actually have a little update. I finally attacked the rear corner which has been staring at me in all of it's ugliness for months. It was super beat up, so I hammered out what I could. It didn't really do all too much, I was left with this mess:

Fill, sand, repeat. After about 7 hours I got it to look like this. Not perfect, but much better. It will all be perfected later when the whole car is prepped and ready for round two of body work which will consist of getting everything paint worthy :

I also got a killer deal on a clean driver's side grille. My original one was super beat. Really happy that I got it for such a good price, and even happier that I now have a clean set of grilles ready to be refinished:
