Love them wheels ever since Smokey and the Bandit. lol

The Roti BLQ's always reminded me of these. But you went OG. Did'nt thing anything besides a Mk2 VW or e30 could've pulled them off. Nice job.

Dunno, it's hard to say really. But if I was you, I'd be getting another engine, 1,for the head 2,for the block if you need it.

What do you think about heli coils or similar in the block threads?

Heli coils in most situations are a life saver but I'm not a fan of using them on a block, we did a head gasket on a 328i vert, the guy had driven it until it stopped ( typical punter) so it was properly cooked, the threads pulled out of that one, we got it heli coiled by our engineer because the customer didn't want to by an engine, and it didn't work, blew another gasket a month or so after.

                They were machined slightly !

                some updates.
Got a very good head off a friend, did a basic rebuild on it. lapped the valves and new seals etc.

and all assembled ready to go in!

found 2 stripped threads on the block. going to helicoil them and see if the other ok ones will hold. if not I'm gonna helicoil them all.

Head bolted and torqued up! bitchin!
fuck the people that say get a new engine/block. This block over heated at least 4 times in it's life :smash:
I did heli coil 2 threads though, they felt just as good when torquing up so here's hoping it will last !
I cleaned out all the other threads with a slitted old head bolt.

Sorry no pics , just imagine swearing and raging for 2 mins trying to line up a 25kg+ 6 pot head and then realising the valves are touching the piston only to take the head off again cos it's not a TDC  (and holding the chain outta the way)

but man,,, I was scared when tightening the bolts haha.

Bit of epic fail because I forgot to film it....

Turnt it over about 20 times to get some oil pressure... then plugged coil packs in..
started up!! Straight home from work on a Sunday and 5 hours work got the bitch running! Was expecting piston to valve contact noise but everythings good except noisy bucket/tappets, the air will get out of them eventually hopefully.

The response seems way better than before revs up and drops revs much faster.
When I was doing the vanos timing it seemed the vanos timing was off previously. Looking at the markings someone has made with tip ex or somethin, it was off.

                          Woop!

Now I just need to change the oil cos it's got tons of coolant in it... too cold to do it tonight !
But so glad it works fine!

Just gotta drive it around tomorrow to run it in and check it over, brings on the drifts

My new hubs are nearly finished. Should do some awesome skids. Just need to do the other ones, press the bearings and paint !

also got some clear rear lights. I dig em! the tinted oem ones looked kinda tacky after a while... I wanted some red !

                              lame.

                              GAME.

Oh yeah here's a vid just to prove all is good so far with the engine.
the smoke is cos the exhaust is very cold.
