A late update on this, but it's a good one

Had some rather unusual Scottish weather recently, it's suuuper hot! So I got on with undersealing most of the car and painting the insides of it.

But this is the best part...

Nearly all of the welding is done! Just the front end to go! And a little bit of rust I found on the rear arch.

Spent the first half of the afternoon getting the door to fit...or fit a bit better! Not perfect, but it's not going to be winning any shows, so I don't mind too much.



Ideally, it needs to come out at the top and go in at the bottom. But I'd need a whole new door and doorstep to get that bit right! It's not bad considering the state of the door. I have a pair of absolutely mint doors under my bed, but I'm using them on my other Mini







We got the A-Panel tacked on and decided to throw on the front end to see what it looked like



It actually looks like a car! I'm so pumped.



Buuut, I still have some work to do. Some of the gaps aren't quite the way I want them(obviously ) So I'll need to work on that.



Not bad up here(Top of the wing posted above) But could go in a little further.



Bonnet gap is alright, but my bonnet is suuper twisted, so it's hard too judge. Picking up a replacement tomorrow

Had a good wee day to myself on the Mini.

Managed to get one of the front calipers off, the bolts on the other one have been rounded off, so I'll need to cut them probably.

Got the caliper almost fully cleaned up. But whilst I was cleaning it, I thought to myself "What am I going to paint these with?" Then I remembered my Dad had loads of red paint in the shed. It turned out to be Rover Nightfire Red!

So I brought down all my suspension parts from my room, sanded them and gave them a pretty hefty amount of paint and lacquer. I was a bit skeptical at first, but now, I really quite like them

Also, I went up to Petes place to see about getting it painted. He said I could have it in primer in a couple of weeks! Hoping to get the front end on this weekend, so all I have to do is the body work and then we're ready to go! Yipee!

Spent an absolute bomb on the Mini today. But it's all necessary parts needed for the rebuild.

Just parts like - gators, ball joints, brake dics, pads, clips, brake shoes, bearings, arches etc etc

Stripped down the hubs and drive flanges today and my Dad is going to take them to his work on Monday and get them sand blasted.

Hopefully get on with the front end tomorrow.

Had a good day on the Mini.

Got the front end adjusted, to the best that we could. Something, I'm not quite sure what, is bent, so the panels aren't lining up as the should...plus the fact that they are pattern panels, the fit wasn't going to be great anyway!

It was never going to be perfect, I knew that from the start, so I had to make do with what I had. It's not going to be a show stopper after all! I'll leave that to my other Mini
















Not over the moon about this panel gap/fitment, but I honestly could do nothing more to get a better fit!










This side is way better though!


I had to cut this to get any sort of fit at all. I'll weld a piece of metal in from the back and use a skim of filler to get it level.

Next weeks job is to get all the bodywork done and hopefully, get it back down on 4 wheels.

My order from DSN Classics should come next week too. It got delayed because they didn't have any brake pads in stock!

Since I'm finished college now (ssh, don't tell my boss!) I've been able to do a couple of jobs during the week.

First up was to fit the lower half of my suspension. A little bit tricky because of the amount of paint I put on! But I got there. I think they look ace up against the black.



New poly bushes, nuts and bolts for everything.


Also swapped out the metal subrame mounts for some poly ones. Might make the car a bit quieter.


Next up was to start stripping the bonnet of it's many layers of paint. So I found the paint stripping wheel and went to work.




Only found a few small dents. Nothing I can't sort.

What a bloody mess it made though!


Need to get a new wheel as I've worn this one down already.

Started cleaning up my calipers today. Still waiting on the order from DSN to come through so I can rebuild them.

With any luck, I should be able to get it into primer next friday night!

Wow, I've been reading through this whole thread and damn man, you're putting in some serious work! That Mini is really coming along nicely! I will definitely follow this one, I can't wait to see that final product! Keep it up!

I guess that Poly subframe mount is one of many, some of which are solid right? I can't imagine the subframe hanging by only that...:P
