A little update... spent the past weekend camping out at Road America for the American LeMans Series. Once again it came down to the last lap, last corner, with a difference of 0.08" seconds between first and second place.
The prototypes are fast, but these two beast are why we were there:

Now onto what matters. I was able to get the upper intake manifold off, along with a pile of other unwanted accesories. Still a long ways to go but I'm able to see where it's going... I've never been a fan of dual intake plenums out at the sides, but there's very limited room to do a large single plenum, so that is still up in the air.
The valve covers have to go. Complete eye-sore. The coils may also be replaced for some less ungainly units from a GT-R... at the very least the mega brackets which hold them will be replaced.
The two cast water outlets at the front will be tossed for some flanges AN-fittings, or new hard lines. Air conditioning will be tossed.

Yes, going with the VG. The 1UZ didn't quite sit with me, so I got my head out of my a** and went with what I should have from the get-go. More compact, more potential out of the gate, capable of 1000+ whp. And of course the music is much more fitting.

Huh! Swear I thought he was getting a 350z engine, and I have to admit I recognize the engine because of Sir in the post above me's build/engine bay shaving thread! I am so excited to see this start to take shape!

Although delayed for a few months due to the Subaru explosion, the motor of choice is finally here. And who knows, if it wasn't for that I may not have even went this route, but I believe it was for the best.
The motor looks huge with all of the stock manifolds and wiring still intact, buts it's actually quite compact.

Very cool build... I haven't come across that yet, so thanks for sharing. Looking through alot of the photos was like deja vu, I love it.

The motor and trans should be arriving today...fingers crossed!

Fair enough on the Z motor..........................

Can't wait to see more progress as it comes.

I'm rebuilding one myself but's it's going waaaaaaaaaaay slower than your build and no where near as radical.
