Along with the automotive fabrication, I work for a company that designs and fabricates all of the plumbing apparatus that goes into firetrucks worldwide (Pierce, Oshkosh, Rosenbauer, E-One), wastewater and RO systems, nuclear plumbing, and also quite a bit of laser work for Oshkosh, Defense. Because of that we have a few fun items such as the CMM arms, and the largest Mazak rotary laser on this side of the globe.Originally posted by softg View Postthese are ridiculous

can't wait to see this thing tubed and flared and smoking tires

what awesome profession do you have that you have access to a 3d scanner?
The welding requirements, and the laser accuray that our customers require trickles right down into all of the automotive components that we do, and I make sure to exploit this every opportunity that I have
I'm generally not a fan of domestic parts but some things you just can't beat for the money. A complete Cobra rear end... diff, axles, 5-lug hubs.. should be here within a week or so. I'll use the diff, axles, hubs, possibly the uprights. I will use these with a double A-arm and pushrod setup, which will hang from the new frame.
The Cobra (99-2004) is 11" wider than the stock 280Z...and has 5x114.3 (4.5")... what that means, is the adapters go on the shelf, and the end result will be wide. And that makes me very happy. Too wide? I dont know just yet!

A few more updates... Here is a quick shot of the rears in comparison to the stock (or at least what came on the car when I purchased it...) tires. 345's stretched on a 18" x 15".

The new Cobra rear end. Upper and lower arms will be replaced with custom pieces, which will tie into the new frame. Pushrods to an inboard shock assembly will replace the stock coil springs and strut. It's just a little beafier than the stock 280Z rear end.......
