not tryin to be rude, so Im sorry if it comes off that way, just curious. Im a corolla nut as I have owned 5 with 2 current, so I kinda favor those motors
No taken as rude at all sir! I am using the 20/22R Hybrid 'cause it is what I have. I was given a trashed 83 Celica GT with a good 22R. So basically it is free. I can up the compression by using the 20R head on the 22R block. You can get it to rev quicker by using alot of old school tricks. Using the aluminium 22R rockers rather than the cast iron ones from the 20R and such. The preivous owner also gave me a good deal on some go fast parts for the 20R such as a 80s vintage Crower cam, adjustable cam gear and some other little trinkets. After it is said and done, I should see about 140-160 Hp and about the same amount of torque.
The thing I like about the R series hybrids is the torque curve... there is none. You get pretty much just as much torque in first as you get in fifth gear.
I have a buddy I am helping drop an LS into a 71 240. If I want power, for the price of the JZ or UZ series, I could have 400 Hp in a smaller package. Best bet for power in these early celicas is actually a well built 7MGTE. They drop right in with minor mods. About the only thing you need to do is bash the tranny tunnel and flip the shifter location foward. Other than that the 7M drops right in like it belongs.
    Sorry for the rambling.

I have a complete 22RTE set up that may get thrown in instead. Plan is this:
    1. Get the engine in the wagon and get it running.
    2. Get the engine in the Supra and get it out to the brother.
    3. Finally get the Celica completely torn down and do bodywork and paint.

The wagon will be the winter project as it is usually pretty mild aroumd here. I will hopefully get the Supra done and out by next summer.

Till all that, I am gonna rock the rat look on the Celica.
you got your work cut out for ya lol

i love 20/22r hybrids. talked to a guy with a super charged one in a te72 wag. it sounded so cool

I need to wash the car before I even think about buffing out the paint. unfortunately, the paint is gone enough that it is chalky. It is really going to need a complete respray. I want to get the bodywork done before paint. Of course that would mean taking it off the road for a while. If it is gonna be down for bodywork, I might as well build the engine I have for it.... see, it just snowballs, so no paint work for now. Besides, I have to get the new engine in the wagon and get the turbo motor built for the supra.

Okay, as ratty as she is, I still felt the need to go out and get some real pics of her. I did it on my dinner break, so it was so quick, I forgot to check the settings on my camera! So much for my emmy winning photojournalist skills

My really crappy interior, but I tell people I am going for the spartan 'race car' vibe...

That last one would be better if my paint was better
