I agree with everyone else though - ditch the plastic and get some real metal flares to weld on.
    They looked nice.

I have a sidestripe much like this one sitting in my garage, what do you think?

Its a bit wider then the original Rabbit stripe.

I think i will try it, its easy to remove if I dont like it.

    Some pictures.

I was in the workshop yesterday to testfit som Rota RBs that I friend of mine is trying to sell. I like the design but the ET is wrong.

The wintertires didnt make it better. It doesnt look like it on the pictures but the edge of the rim was too far out from the fender, rendering it useless without some serious fender widening and the mother of all stretches on the tires.

    The rims look great though.

Its in the front the ET problem is parent, when the back suspension was boxed it was also shortened about an inch (2.5cm) on either side.

The Derby has a quite stiff suspension, note the back wheel.

The last years summerrims fitted and the car is back on its feet.

Finally, an update. Havent been to the workshop for several months due to illness.

I had to do some tidying up and put the car on its wheels to move it. Its sitting on the original 13 inch VW motorsport rims.

So I will not use them, I will either go for the weld in golf 1 type like the blue derby in the start of the thread or just make the best of the original fenders, hopefully they will allow somewhat wider wheels and tires if I massage them a bit without changing the original look.
