  • teh Galant(long arse read)

Hello Stance works, I have been on here ghosting for a bit making a few small posts. But here comes the time for my build. Gonne Start from the beginning since I have done nothing to the car (being a Pre-Med student does that). But here we go.
In a time a year after a year ago I just turned 16 and was looking all over a car in my $1500 budget, I was looking at mainly 80s want to be muscle cars, accords, eclipses, even a Dodge Dart which I almost bought. Just anything really (I did not want a civic or anything Toyota). I almost bought an 87 v6 Trans-Am but the parents said no..... So I gave up my search it. Then moved to trying to get my father to give me his original 87 Grand National wasn’t happening either DAMN!!! But probably a good thing.

So about this time frame it was I want to say October or November, I just remember it was starting to get cold. My parents got a phone call from my Grandmother asking if I had found a car, the answer was of course no. So she told them that the tenants that lived in her side apartment had a car that has been sitting there doesn’t run to well and asked if I was interested. My parents thought about it and said yes to my grandmother. But there was one condition, since the car was not running well it was going to go to one of those donate a car programs I needed to get it running. So the parents figured what the hell he won’t get it running right but will gain some knowledge in the process.

One night I and my buddy were asked to go over to my grandmother’s house because she had some work for me to do. We got there, and was surprised saying "If you can get this hunk-o-shit running and out of my driveway it’s yours" Looked over the car and was like really WTF this is a "hunk-o-shit". But like what my parents said ah what the hell why not. Next day we went back over and tried to start the car. Nothing, battery was fully charged but would not turn over. I got the idea hey lets hook up some jumper cables and see what happens. Fired right over, so I was like "oh shit". So at that time her tenant cam out and said "BTW it has trans issues so that is why it doesn’t run well and sputters". But I could have it if I wanted it. I said yes and we signed the title over.

Fast forward a few weeks we got the car back to my house spitting and sputtering the whole way. I decided I was just going to part the whole car out and take whatever I get and put it into something else. Went online and found out between forums and eBay it wouldn’t be worth my time to part is out. The interior was smoked in with cigarette burns, I ran like complete shit, the entire passenger side has body damage, and it was a cheap ass want to be grandma luxury car with faux wood trim.

Here is how I got it (minus the air filter, and blacked out grill)

Notice no real picts of the passenger side

Thus I decided to keep it, drove around my neighborhood spitting and sputtering thinking I was the shit (and still do). It was around December. I started digging into why it was sputtering and came to the conclusion it was a misfire. Promptly ordered $90 OBX coil packs and popped those suckers in.

    Cool shit yo!!

Why you don’t use OBX parts

So I did allot of research and figured out oh shit all this smoke, me losing coolant, and sputting has to be related but how? HMMM?? So I diagnosed a blown head gasket but could not do anything about it till is got warm.

So in the mean time I replaced the entire rotting out exhaust, cleared the turns, took the gay ass hubcaps off. And that was about besides cleaning it and all

    FTW!!

So came the warmth and the springs and I pulled the head gasket to go to the machine shop to be freshened up, and check the block

Can you tell which cylinder it was?

So the head went off to the machine shop and came back ported?! I knew the owner so all of it was done for the great price of $50

    MMM tasty

Popped the head back on and ran like a champ. Even drove it from Delaware all the way out to Colorado.

Didn’t do much the first month or two being in Colorado. Got a wild hair up my ass one day and defined the grill meshed it and painted it black.

    Gutted pre cat

    Rear disc conversion and drilled/slotted

Plus a bunch or other misc stuff. Then found out I cracked the IM and picked up a 03 outlander one.

Outlander is cast and is better for boost and wont rust out like the other one. I held onto this for like a month and a half before putting it on.

Drove it around for abit just enjoyed the car. Found some eclipse GST wheels at the junkyard and snagged those. But wanted to lower it desperately.

Just a test fit then back to the steelies. One day I was really stressed out driving my sister around and made a wrong turn, in not really thinking tried to make a U turn. Well the Galant has the worst turning radius ever! So I nailed the curb, bent the wheel, blew out the tire, and bent the strut.

So I dipped into saving since I needed the car on the road and bought these.

    Spent the weekend and bam!

Had not really dialed in the stance at these pictures, but I raised the rear to no gap and dropped the front as low as it would go.

Still would like to go lower but I need a shortened strut because I started to tear the front axle boot.

So nothing eventful happened between then and mid June. I developed a nasty lifter tick so I decided to bleed the lifters; this shit came out of the lifters.

About 2 days later the motor was making some nasty noises. I have a feeling I ate up the balance shaft bearing not sure yet. So I spent some time digging and bought a junkyard motor with 180 compression all around with a five speed transmission.

    Out with the old

Pulled the head off the new motor and swapped my ported head on, studded the block at the same time with a MLS head gasket ready for booooostttttt

Swapped in had a few little issues that I had finished and drove the car for the first time with 5 speed and 130 in the morning.

Been driving the car daily ever since and loving every minute of it. Got a set of DDM hids, 3k fogs and 5k heads.

I have put 3500 miles since the swap oil look good, may need a new clutch soon. But other than it that is it. I may have forgotten a few things along the way but you can tell from the pictures and stuff.

I do have a few things planned in the future.

Well that it guys I got a lot going through my mind whether to keep it and go for my big goals, drive it until I pick up one I can build from the ground up, or drive it into the ground and try another platform. But comments good or bad are appreciated, been shitting here for an hour and am done now.

Niiiiice. Really good build thread too, man. I've always personally liked Galants, but I think they got horrible after this bodystyle.

Thanks, I hear that from alot of people. But most seem scared away from the platform due to lack of aftermarket support.

YEah I am not sure where i am going with it yet. Turbo this one or pick another as a project. But Sohc 4g64. Not like what comes over there. Infact the 8gen galants over there are wayyy different from the USDM

glad to see you've picked up a crappy running car and turned it into some worth keeping, I love these kind of builds. It just shows that there's some people out there that would like to start from scratch and work their way to the top, kudos to you sir!

I did and do. But since The Machine Shop is a secretive underground go fast cult shop I cant be spreading it around
