car came back from RWC, they gave me a list of shit that needs to be fixed

most is just trivial shit like:
      steering wheel cover loose,
brake pedal rubber a bit worn,
rear seat belts don't clip in(the buckles have been mixed left to right so left does not clip into left but does clip into right lol) easy fix
      headlights need focusing
driver seat doesn't slide(it does, just requires lots of force lol)

the problem area however is the slightly squished chassis rails and rust repair
usually the rails get squished when the cars came over from japan and got unloaded by a forklift, never had a problem with those for getting a RWC, but new rules came in so now every body related issue requires a panel beater to sign off saying it doesn't affect the integrity of the car.
so now i need the rust repair areas and chassis rails looked at by a panel beater and approved before i can get it on the road

      fucking drainer

yeah most cars that came from japan have squished chassis rails, most S13s and S14s i've seen have it

yeah they are anal about it now, coz from 1st July they made new rules where any suspected damage or repair needs to be assessed by a panel beater to stop dodgy repaired cars getting on the road

i've organized to take it to a panel shop a friend works at to see if they can sus it out and if needs fixing, it would be cheaper through my friend

maybe they can heat up the rails with an oxy and bring the squashed sections back out a little bit? Seen something similar on Desert Car Kings lol

yeah will see what they say, i have the same problem on the 180 there is dints in the rails from lifting by forklift and it was never an issue

it was like the most common form of damage amongst all imported cars from japan

                  FML

burst a rear brake/drum seal today and pissed out brake fluid everywhere

managed to do a temp fix to drive it home by blocking off the line with a bolt, but now i need to fucking rebuild my rear brakes with new seals and shit before i can continue with my journey to registering the car

so i've been sick with the flu for a while, so there hasn't been much progress, but today i pulled apart the rear drums and took out the wheel cylinders for re-building

also getting new hardlines made up coz the flare nuts on the lines were fucked

while i was under the car i've also found a rust spot that needs attention ASAP, there is a rust hole in the rear floor along the seam, so i'll see if i can get a friend to patch it up for me.

might get pics of the progress tomorrow

so here are the photos I promised

didn't take many coz once my hands got dirty i didn't want to touch the camera lol

new rebuilt brake cylinders and new hardlines next to the old hardlines

empty brake drum backing plate, so tempting to fit S13 rear disk brakes since i have like 2 sets sitting around lol

the rust hole in the rear floor that needs to be cut out and replaced with fresh metal

also discovered more good news after i finally managed to start the car coz the battery got draining by something

there is definitely coolant in the exhaust and the culprit is the No 6 cylinder, realy hoping it is just a head gasket and not a cracked head

gona have to tear the head off next week and sus it out

sigh, will i ever get this thing rego'd

so i've started tearing off the head on the Z

but before i did that i took a few reference photos, so when it came time to re-assemble i could remember where shit went

ta da, carbs and exhaust manifold out

so much open space in the engine bay with the manifolds gone

hmm, better remember how these lines go...

strip down completed ready to take the cam cover and head off

pretty shiny, just needs a clean

the strip down of the head didn't take that long at all, there was no seized bolts of nuts, which made me very surprised coz even those nuts on the exhaust manifold which always rust into place came undone with an effort of only 1 hand

i've ordered a new head gasket and a new manifold gasket, silly me forgot to order the cam cover gasket as it looked like it was sealed with only RTV silicone until i pulled it off and found a gasket under the silicone
