as for whats next.... i plan on finishing the interior and enjoying it. car is fun to drive. it doesn't have a ton of power but power to weight keeps it fun.
next car projects... who knows. i am a car guy not just a vw guy. i grew up on a used car lot and my dad had a passion for older cars, right now i could build about anything to keep me busy... i'd like an older 240 like this
we had a yellow one with green interior when i was a kid and always loved the shape of them.... i have so many car idea's and I honestly enjoy working on cars and would be happy to pickup almost any project car and would do so if i had room to do it.
how about a little refresher. car is pretty much the same. have been off and on working on it and almost to the point of parting it out. the super charger spewed oil all over the engine bay and the drive pulley bolt backed out of the charger (thinking bearing failure...). Removed the charger and drove the car a couple times and it has sat. along the way i picked up a turbo manifold and kinda continued on neglecting the car. had the chance to pick up a new vehicle that made sense with our family plans and being a home owner i bought a truck. not just any but a 1970 datsun 521. thing is clean. it was traded in at the vw dealer i work for and had some electrical issues that the po had created. bought the truck, fixed the wiring and alternator problem and have enjoyed it ever since.
as show season came around it just didn't feel right to not have the jetta around. so i started to get the itch. i made some plans and started working on it bit by bit. parts started to arrive and found one of the big pieces was damaged in shipment
well after loads of waiting and many nasty emails i gave up. i gave in and knew it wasn't meant to be.
as it turns out a friend of mine inquired about my supercharger and was looking for some spare parts that i may have had we decided what he needed and what i had sitting around weren't quite the same. after a few months i realized his charger is useless without the pulley and it will cost about as much as rebuilding my old one. a deal was struck and off i went to pick it up.
assembly first
and 30 minutes later its back to being boosted
then i said to myself. fuck it. its just a car, anything i do to this car can be fixed. so i got out some tape, a marker, some rulers and measuring devices. and low and behold i have an extra sunroof for sale
it took a lot for me to drill the first hole, after that i pretty well was sure that i would never be fixing this if i messed up. after a couple hours and a trip to the hardware store i had a roof that would open and close
first trip up the street and it felt great to have the car up and driving again
