            • haha thanks, yeah its a good spot to feed the addiction.

a little progress on the z.. will be posting up the process pictures for the fab work this weekend. have been documenting the coolant work and the power steering work.. lots of one off stuff i am definitely proud of

and since i am attempting to tackle this wiring thing (which I **** an hope to never need to touch again), and I want to simplify the wiring harness as much as possible, i came to a bit of a snag.. the original coil packs on this car have a separate controller which runs them. because of this, the wiring for the coil packs cant run through the same military spec connector as the injectors because of signal noise.... BUT.... i can swap over to a newer style coil pack altogether thus removing the ptu (controller) and allowing for the use of a single military spec connector once again. Woo!

              this should get interesting.

              • part 1 of the fab work.. im going backwards, but i dont have the pictures of the other stuff on my phone yet, so here it goes.

decided since i am simplifying things as much as physically possible, lets eliminate some ugly rubber hoses. yes, that would be power steering and coolant related. these are pretty much the only hoses left in the bay, so why not convert them.

but wait, why would I convert the existing ugly reservoirs to AN? not worth the time given they are ugly and in the way... SO

why not design a reservoir? yep thats the ticket. got to about 5 min of sketching the ideas and went at it. Ran some calcs to see how big each res would hold once i was able to get to dimensions I liked, and off we went

So, basically the thought was that I had need for a coolant overflow tank, and power steering reservoir, both of which needed to be mounted on the frame rail under the front fascia, completely out of view. The Power steering portion is sloped and baffled so that it functions like stock and is gravity fed to aid the pump, the coolant side is a bit simpler. we made a double wall on the inside and put some automotive vapor barrier type insulation in between so that the tanks would not transfer heat from one to another. Just an extra precaution

Big help from my buddy Ed @ FFE for the finish welding porn on the piece to not only make it liquid tight, but look sick as well

so from the sketch, cut some flat pieces of aluminum (2) and bent each of them twice to basically make 3 sides of the box. then bent them on the metal brake, and started planning.

back welded in the AN ports for all of the necessary fittings

started on some of the baffling as you can see here, from the return that comes from the rack. no splashing when its all done

tig welded everything, brought the two pieces together to form a tank, and finish welded all of the seams. and then to finish off, i measured for the location of the mount that will mount the tank to the bottom side of the frame rail. 1/4" aluminum tigged isnt going anywhere

and here is the back side of the finished product. going to be going in the pile for some matching black powdercoat

notice that since the ports are back welded, it looks as if they were floating on the outside. little stupid details we drool over when doing this type of stuff

front side (side you would technically see)

lots more stuff to come... the last few weeks have been busy with little fab work here and there every break I get. from custom made coolant hard pipes that come off of the block to new ports that come off of the only accessory still on the motor.. for now

                      • a little more. below is the lower hard pipe. Upper hard pipe is much more work, and being made from scratch, so ill document that next.

the lower coolant hard pipe is in the foreground of this picture.

It contains and covers the thermostat which is the reason for its shape.

decided to change things up quite a bit in terms of coolant flow. just for reference, here is the mock up of the finalized parts that i decided not to use (being fitted on the second tt motor on the stand for now)
i threw on the braided rubber hoses so you can see how the OEM design is quite odd. works because of the massive amounts of parts cramped in these bays from the factory, but for me... nah. quest for motor in bay here and thats all.

as you can see, the stock lower pipe runs left, then down, then all the way back across the radiator, and then tight 90deg in. an extra say 4-5 feet of hose for what I need it for.

                        so let the chopping begin.

chopped back some more, and then some more.. turned the -16 button on the lathe, and test fit it on what remained

that works.. tig welded from the inside again (yes so we can get a laugh when people ask how the plug seems to float)

then a little time in the media blaster, and its ready for powder

did a quick mock up on the mock up motor with the 90deg hose end off of the shop race car, and here is how she will look when its all done. I have to say, I love having a second motor to mock up parts on.

more to come. the upper hard pipe is quite a bit more fabrication work

                            • So... I might need some help. Anyone near in location to this address?

                              Address: 6182 W State Rd 28, Frankfort, IN 46041

Owner scammed me out of a set of wheels... The temporary set for my car is on hold till I can find some new parts to use. Pretended to own a set of wheels, paid the man, and he owns no such wheels. Gave me the runaround, and now I can not file a claim because the time lapsed for filing a claim.
It was worth a shot. Back to the search for the proper wheel faces for the temporary set. Lol

It happens. Shady people on these internets. He is a member of zilvia.net. I'll post up some more info once I do a bit more investigation.
