Axed the widebody project. I did all of the planning, all of the prep work, test fitted the new shaped metal before planning to make the cuts, and I dont like the way it flows with the car... so back to the drawing board...
might just pull the fenders with some relief cuts, weld in and then blend a small area of the paint so the paintwork isnt that extensive. I was worried I would have to redo all of the paint with the widebody anyway, so its better that thats not really the case

pictures will be up soon. I will test fit the panel again once more just in case, but it looks like a no go. When I make a decision it usually sticks

with the way you do things I will totally call you out for half assing your car if you tried a widebody without doing a full respray.
Hatchbacks, wagons... It's NOT all the same. You want in? Don't get a mazda 3, get a mazda 6 wagon. Don't get a wrx get a legacy wagon. and theres a reason the A3 isn't called the A3 avant... Scion does not make a wagon it makes a weird van, but no wagons

      Sincerely,

P.S. Is your tail a wagon?

        • When your car retains 90% of the original 22 yr old finish that is in very good shape would you do an unnecessary full respray? It's a waste of money repainting something that doesn't need to be. It just makes the car that much more OE, patina is a good thing.

Have you considered over fenders as a bit of a throw-back to the original Z?

            • yep, full respray is no where in my future. Unless you saw the car in real life, you would not know the little details that can never be replicated about the paint, and thus the reason why it likely will stay like this till it actually needs it (likely when im in my 40s. haha).

the rear might be getting some work done to it anyway as the camber needs to go, i just need to plan it out, and make sure it doesnt force entire panels to be painted.

              • slow progress on the cage as h2oi weekend took precedence, and lots of other events going on.

this weekend should have lots of updates though..

super psyched that my good buddy Danny has been working feverishly on the plastics for the engine bay. I now know he is as crazy as I am with the details. Cant wait to see these things this weekend. Super pumped to see how insane these things are going to look

This detail alone will literally change the whole bay imo.

                • ever thought about narrowing the rear track width a bit to leave the wheels alone?

                  Comment

                  • nah, not going to mess with the rear end of the car at all at this point. I think ive made some decisions on what to do, and they may happen this winter.

Lots happening currently on the car, none of it going to FCF this year unfortunately. BM at my cousins wedding the same day. Lots of work is just going to have to debut next season I guess.. Looks like she is going on dollies so i can roll her around the garage. and thats it for this years fun.

                    Not a bad year:
multiple features, a first place trophy at every major event I attended, SS magazine feature article. She seems to have made celeb status (haha) among lots of other noteworthy mentions. More to come for next year, and hopefully some track time

                      • Thank you. Yeah its been a long time coming, and lots to go.

Car is up on stands, and I am attempting to put together the list of the things to do this winter.. The list is going to change quite a bit, and a lot of the crazy stuff is being put on hold. Mostly because purchasing a new house is more of a priority then supercharging her for now.

lot of work already happening, cage is almost done. and a few things im not going to show till spring. I am going to also be messing with the fenders a little bit more, and lowering the car a bunch up front.

                        Start of list:
                        -finish cage
-leather work for pads around cage parts
-paint cage the chosen pearl white
-bay details (not getting into detail yet)
                        -fender pulling if possible
                        -lower front 1/2" or so
-rear suspension geometry adjustments and possible wheel change to lessen the camber to -4
                        -skid plate under entire motor/trans

just need to tig the x brace in, and then decide on the 2 front bars and how they integrate into the structure of the floor.. The extensions off of the strut towers are for access to the coilover adjusters for quick adjustment, and once the plastics are all back in, most of this will not be noticeable. Test fit the rear seat, and only minor work will need to be done to the seat back to let it sit under the bars. just as planned.
