How much was the GAZ set up ? maybe it was a journo freebie ? My guesses are at least twice what a set of Bilsteins and some H+R (Eibach no longer sell E24 springs) springs would cost .

For a street driven car the ONLY advantage the coilovers have over the other options is that you can easily drop the car on its 4rse. If having the car on its 4rse and looking "dope" is your number one priority over ride comfort/handling/driveability etc, you guys really need to grow up.

I've just bought a '65 Singer Gazelle and it's going to be stanced up next week. It's well dope. I've already paintstripped the bonnet, fitted a wrong colour front wing plus a rusty roofrack and taken a grinder to the springs. I've already got me Slouch Beanie and my special jeans that are halfway down my arse so you can see me Calvins. I'm only 43, call it a midlife crisis.

C U down da drivethru stancebruvs!
    damn you guys are cool.

So, you don't like brand new coilovers... but you like grinded springs?

Haha I'm sure you're texting eachother and giggling about all the badass shit your hittin em stancebruvs wit innit (not the person, the slang I know you would use daily)

Not my thing but a 65 Singer Vogue would be nicer if it was done right. By the way there are more ways to style a car than having a clio in glitter paint with a halfords body kit, fake chrome rimz yo and a 10inch exhaust pooping out the back. I'd never have a go at the mugs driving those cars because it's what they're into. I don't like it so I stay away. You should do the same bruv

So, 20 year old standard leaky suspension vs GAZ coilovers.

I'd even go with GAZ being better than OEM for quality.

Who are you ? Do you own a piece of "stanced" scrap ?

Like others have said, if you don't like what people on this forum do to their cars, keep it to yourself or just don't bother! You won't win any friends on here by laying into what people do. If you want OEM standard 'well sorted' cars, may I suggest you check out the E30 Zone? You may get on better with the people there, too
I have plenty to keep me busy thanks, without having to resort to spending my precious time fixing stuff that others have spent thoudsands f*cking.

The point of my original post being , "why do people spend thousands of pounds unnecessarily bastardising/ compromising the driveability of a decent car while failing to carry out basic maintenance/repair". why ?

    Why would you sell it

This is so cool. What you got now (unless I missed it)

Lol, read this arguement - why come on a StanceWorks forum, with a moto 'Low is a Lifestyle' and suggest -30mm springs? Losing battle there am afraid.

When I bought the car the original suspension had leaking, cracked shock absorbers and corroded springs. It would have failed its MoT had I not replaced them. So, instead of fitting OEM parts, I used Gaz coilovers. They were a lot stiffer than the original suspensions, but that was a concession I was willing to make to allow the ride height to be adjusted - if you want it to run it at original height, use the two u-shaped spanners in the boot (right-hand tool kit area, if memory serves) to raise it.

As for the exhaust, when I sold it (to the person that I presume sold it to you), I was quite clear to the buyer that it was blowing. He planned to replace it, but what he did and didn't do is not my responsibility.

Which brings me to my next point. Before suggesting that I'm a charlatan on a public website - also bearing in mind that I use my real name and don't hide behind an internet persona - remember that there was ANOTHER OWNER between me and you/your customer. I'm not going to be held responsible for their work.

I am the mechanic who has the unfortunate pleasure of working on what ever scrap Mr Sadig (The guy you sold it to ) buys.

Coincidentally the car failed its MOT 3 weeks ago, just before he sold it. Reason for failure - the springs were hanging out of the strut bodies !

The reason the exhaust was blowing was that the middle box had been peeled open , undoubtably on a carelessly discarded fag packet/dog stool whilst the car was "cruzin da streets lokin dope"

As for the Kenlowe fan detritis, I assume it was fitted by the same plumber who carried out the "install"

I am not sure if it was you who carefully fitted the radiator with an assortment of Morris Ital hoseclips and fittings sans antifreeze coolant or was it them acknowledged craftsmen at Cooks Ferry BMW ?
It was almost funny waiting two weeks for the turd to thaw out during the recent freeze !

Luckily the only casualty of the freeze was the coolant bottle . Now that the car has a decent cap ( the shrivelled up rubber seal doesn't belong in the bottle) antifreeze and the correct shroud it runs as it should with no issues, at last.

Don't even get me started on the nasty council tints that make the car look like a tower block terror and make it a pain in the bum to manoeuvre when dark.

I also fixed the drivers door lock, the heater issue (resistor and switch and a myriad of other issues that are to be expected with a car of this age.

With all of the above finally done, dare I say, all it needs is the tints removing, some nice standard suspension with maybe a set of -30 springs to give it a "stance" and it could be a nice car again !
