so what exactly is the risk involved with this machine? Is it a new company with no reputation or something? Seems to be a nice machine but that's just from looking at it haha. Does this do stick welding too?

A lot of the Everlast stuff is made in 'China' and some have complained that the inverters blew up shortly after purchase. They now use IGBT electronics from Infineon, which are a lot more reliable.

I think that was more true for the earlier model than the one Heist purchased, there's a lot of 'pro welders' that have used them without any issues.

The problem with the sewing machine is gearing it down becomes a huge pain and it's not going to have the torque I'm going to need for heavy objects at very very low rpms. The bodine motor I bought costs $500 alone, but it can turn just about anything I put in front of it.

Having a blast with the tig! Going to try out the plasma in a little. Mig and tig are totally different creatures, have a lot of practice ahead of me thats for sure. So far, loving the unit and really plan to put it to the test in the coming weeks... I have so many things on the 02 that need some tig love.

Get a bigger cup/lens. Better gas coverage of your welds. Also make sure you get a proper puddle going before moving. Do a couple butt welds with no filler to get a feel for the puddle then you can add filler

you tried alu in your first tig attempt and you kinda got it!..

My Tig machine has been brand new in the box for 2 years now.. procrastination to the max!

From what I have been reading most people use 20-30 cf for the gas right? I will look into a bigger cup. I'm struggling getting the amp/other settings right I keep burning shit up or doing nothing at all. Big change from the mig, but thanks for the help.

Yea 20cf is plenty. Do you have a foot pedal with your box? You have to go high amps to get the puddle started then back off. It's all about practice and knowing the metal you're we doing to get the proper amperage.

yeah I sure do. I was playing with it today a lot, slowly getting the hang of it. It also has the pulse settings, which I just started getting into and they seem really interesting/beneficial.

When you grind the tungsten, don't grind the colored end. The different colors mean different things, for instance red is thoriated. If you have multiple tungstens for different applications (mild, stainless, alu, etc) you won't know which one is which. leave the colored end and grind the other side so the color end is inside the torch.

Tig is really all about being consistent with the size of the puddle, when you add rod, and speed.
I'm sure you'll pick it up quickly.
