  • Whoa. I'm really blown away by this. The black colour is indeed a nice one, even if the car is still in the testing process. Since you prefer grey, you could either do it matte, or metallic, for that mirror effect. Can't wait to see more of this already! And to think that i didn't like Alfa Romeo until now.

Although my personal opinion about the colour is that you should keep it in the family, some sort of glossy dark red. It'll look more...elegant, should i say. Since i am still going through the build thread, are you planning on keeping the V6 with the ITB's? you could go with a supercharger, not necessarily a big one, but rather to have power (or boost if you prefer) throughout the whole powerband On the other hand, keeping it N/A gives you better throttle response. What are your plans on this?
Thanks Noi5eBOmb! Yes I'll be keeping it the NA- ITB combo. Just the sound alone is enough to make that an easy decision. There has been so many mods to the car that going with red, to me, is just not how I`d like her draped. I'm more of a low-key individual, so going with something greyish is closer to my personality.

Nah. Call me strange, but I've never been a fan of meets.

Thanks again, Noi5eBOmb! Currently my painter is spraying the wiper cowl piece a dark metallic grey. I should be picking it up this week and will run it on the car during the testing stage to get the feel of it. Come next winter, I'll decide then on either continuing with the black or switch to the grey metallic.

Thanks nismo sentra! That was just a draft I was playing around with. But the blue and black make for an interesting concept that a few here have done.

        • Spider Details.

Here's another detail I worked on with my painter and body guy. It involves a deeper cut to the inner headlamp for a more aggressive look. Originally, these headlamps are presented with chrome bezels wit some models sporting covers. However, on this Spider, I threw that out and decided to french the lamps for a cleaner and more simplistic feel.

                • Intake Mocking

I started mocking up the new temporary plenums that will utilize the underside of the hood as the top of the plenums. I selected a pretty thin gauge aluminum to get the shape down and then configure it accordingly without too much effort.

Once the general shape was determined, the next step was to get the curvature of the hood to match the top edge of the plenum. For this next step, I'll place the putty along the top edge of the plenum and close the hood on it to get my parameters within a 1/4 inch. Then run a rubber seal to fill that gap and create a seal. Then take the plenum's three sections apart, trace onto a thicker gauge of aluminum and reassemble.

For the air intake into the plenum, there will be a 4 inch hole fed by flexible tubing coming from the inner fenders. The other end of that tubing will house the air filter within the front wheel well. To better feed that filter with cold air, an intake will be created within the front bumper.

I just love the trumpets on this engine. That's why I've chosen this style of plenum. Once you open the hood, they give the engine a more raw and visceral feel. As of now, I'm just about to dial in the height with putty.

                  Work continues.

                      • Intake Mocking cont.

Back to work on the plenums today and started the clay work. I rolled and placed several bullets in the area that I was concerned with...

...then closed the hood. Once reopened, I was able to tell exactly where and by how much my clearances were for the hood to seal against the weather stripping.

Next up was the placement of the 4" intake port (shown by the aluminum cut-out) and angled it accordingly to feed all 3 trumpets/ITB's

When the ducting tube is in place, it'll gently stretch the plenums port and be fully enclosed with the plenums weather stripping to seal as one unit. To do this properly, I sized the opening slightly larger than the 4" tube.

Then I pulled that plenum apart, traced it out and mocked up the other side for a bullet check. Perfect. All exterior edges are within spec of the seal and hood to within 1 - 1.5".

Here are the two plenums mocked up, spaced, and taped to match the hoods underside. The plenums will sit against the trumpets and be secured there in it's final stage.

From here, I'll now retrace on a thicker aluminum stock, cut out and have tig welded to produce the final product.

Thanks voorhees! There's so much more to the build than what I've posted up here. So as the build matures, I'll be highlighting key mods in further detail.

Thanks SlyCooperR53! I'm currently having the bumper's internals painted and they will help fill in the gaps you see. There will also be a couple more internal components that will be in place soon.
