  • Ram-Air Cove Canards

With the new re-angled diffuser slates out back on the block soon, I felt that this line should be brought up front as well.

Now, as functional as the front ram-air coves are, that area was a little drab and needed some punching up. Enter the front canards/ram air deflectors - diffuser slate inspired.

A quick mock-up proved to give me the form and function I was after. With slightly angled for an aggressive look, the slates played off the curvature of the main panel very well.

Mind the fitment of the fangs/canards in these shots. They're just mocked and moved a bit due to the many times the bumper was on and off during the adjustments for spec.

    Up close.

Sorry for the poor picture quality. It was quite late when I wrapped.

        • Spider Update.

I'm now using Flickr for uploading. So I hope this corrects the problems some members have had with no visible pics. Please let me know if anyone cannot see the new uploads from here on out.

Ok, I've moved into the interior and have started formatting the gauges. I decided to utilize the stock pod. So I gut the internals and lined up the new formation. It was a little tricky to carve the top three ports as the pod is quite fragile and great care had to be taken when drilling.

I used a hole saw and after a TON of measurements, I started in and drilled out the ports. There were a couple tense moments as the holes came VERY close to the speedo and tach. But with a soft and patient touch, it came out perfect.

Here's the mock after the holes were drilled. Next up will be to take care of the remaining gaps from the stock gauges.

          027 (1024x768)

But before that, I used some flat black vinyl and wrapped the smaller gauges exterior to blend it into the pod.

          024 (1024x768)

Here's a top view showing the vinyl wrap.

          030 (1024x768)

Next up was fabricating an aluminum surround to flush the gauges.

          033 (1024x768)

Then I applied some more vinyl to the new surround that blocks all the previous gaps.

          035 (1024x768)

          In car spec check.

          045 (1024x768)

Top view showing the levels. I love the fact that it's not just a simple flat panel. It's all black . But with the brushed bezels and upper step, it pops very nicely.

          052 (1024x768)

From passenger side. The holes between the speedo and tack will host one of a few concepts I have on deck. More on that section soon.

Thanks Bro! Those are the full gauges. The faces black-out when off. Then look like this when on.

                • Spider Update.

I spent the limited time I had fabricating the belly pan dive plates for both medial and lateral edges. These plates serve a dual function - keep the under body air from being disturbed and carry the exterior line of the body.

It's a crappy half-focused shot. Will get better ones tomorrow.

CCW's fit very well but the fenders could use a touch more breathing room in the area of a 1/4 inch. Nothing major. I'm on it.

                      • I'm glad you were able to narrow it down to 3 gauges.

I would personally paint over the auto meter lables though
Hatchbacks, wagons... It's NOT all the same. You want in? Don't get a mazda 3, get a mazda 6 wagon. Don't get a wrx get a legacy wagon. and theres a reason the A3 isn't called the A3 avant... Scion does not make a wagon it makes a weird van, but no wagons

                        Sincerely,

P.S. Is your tail a wagon?

Thanks Madhatter! The car reflects my personality - in what I'm in 150% or nothing. I **** half-ass shit.

Thanks P78! Glad you can see the images again. Looks like Flickr is the link! And you can ALWAYS expect sweet updates. One thing i can't stand, are threads with mindless chatter. That being said, everytime you see my name attached to an update, rest assured, I'm not chiming in to talk about the weather or what chick I saw the other day. I'm out to do damage!!

Yeah, it just worked out that way. Sometimes drafts are just a direction. Not always a solid path.

Thanks nellydragracer! To me, detail work is something that would annoy me if I didn't do it, therefore I must!!
