  • decided to be semi productive today and fasten the power steering hoses properly.

i used some flat bar and an old random bracket to make a brace going across the bottom of the radiator where the old oilcooler mounted. then using some insulated p clamps, bolted the 2 hoses down, which pulls them back a bit to clear the intercooler fins, so they dont rub.

then i bolted the 2 hoses to the block using some p clamps again, and added a hose separator to the 2 hoses near the radiator(not pictured)

also happy that so far theres no leaks from the power steering setup.

    • so, after an agonizing 4 months wait, my inner barrels arrived. NOTE: dont use concept-wheels.be unless you're willing to put up with little/slow communication and a LONG wait time.

so what to do? bolt a couple together and test fit on car, to make sure i got my measurements right

      rear looks good

front pokes a touch, calculations say it should be about the same as the alpinas

yep, im happy. now to decide on colour and get them coated!!

        • What have you calculated?

This are 8,5 ET 13 Front Lip was 2" Barrel 6"
This are 9,5 ET 13 Back Lip was 2,5" Barrel 6,5"

What have you put on now? May the back wheels can come a little more wider.

          • theyre 2" lips, 6.5" barrels. measures up as 9" ~et19.

im happy with the sizes, i wanted a square set of wheels instead of staggered for a change. fitment in rear is pretty much identical to my style 5s, and front is pretty much same as alpinas. i wouldve been happier with a bit less poke in the front, but not worth the effort.

                        • got this message rom my mate today, whats everyones thoughts o colour choice? im leaning towards the ssangyong one

heres some possible wheel colors. if the sun comes out before you pick it up ill take some more pics. left to right weve got ssangyong premium wine code WAC. color features crystal red, and lilac pearl mixed with jet black. (my pic of the liter). then Lexus premium brown aka tigers eye mica code 4t2 which has yellow and red pearl mixed with other solid tinters to make the amber brown color. then bmw demask code B03, which has the standard red pearl in it, also looks nice.... these colors really bang out in the sun

(oh and if your wondering ive cut a piece of a trashed 200sx bumper for a test panel)

                          • seeing as colour is 99% chosen, i need to get these things ready for paint.

~3/4 of the way done. tomorrow i should get the rest stripped

had to throw a lip and barrel on one of the completed centers. glad i dont need to strip the center caps.

got my sump back today, now with -10an fitting for supercharger drain. still waiting on new dipstick and tube to arrive before i can install it along with the dual oil pump and new filter housing.

and got my bolts the other day for the wheels, just went stainless.

and ill be ordering some half height caps as soon as spinfab have them ready to order

                              • the wheels were painted yesterday, and he sent me some pics!!

first some words from him about the work he did, absolutely cant wait to pick them up next saturday and begin assembly

took about 5 hours, took my time...

also a little on what i did to the wheels... after red scotch brite'ing all the bare metal i ended up machine sanding the spoke faces with 320 grit discs to get out any marks and scratches. then after i set up all the stuff i wiped down all the metal with gun wash thinners.

the light gray primer is 1k etch primer that i over thinned with normal reducer to use as a wet on wet. wet rubbed the center caps with 800 grit (prep washed) then gave them a coat of adhesion promoter to guarantee the base color to stick. then sprayed color and rubbed out any bits of junk in hte color before putting the last coat on. then cleared everything. also full 10 minute flash off between coats or clear.

the black is 40% black 2k and %60 matting agent (or there abouts), then 2:1 with hardener and 20% thinners. think i put 3 coats of the black as after i put in the matting stuff it had no strength/coverage. took a fair couple full wet coats to cover. matter of fact when i thought i was done i went and inspected them only to find the etch primer peeking through at me in certain places. so i had to mix more and give it another coat. hopefully by monday it will have dulled off a bit more. i left it to dry naturally, no bake cycle. paint jobs always look better if you let them sweat on their own instead of force drying.
ok, some pics. you'll have to wait another week or 2 for proper pics of the colour
