Nope, all you need is a DSLR. Keep the shutter open a long time and that's all. I just ran around with my phone light. Haha

well I have a t3i and im a total noob haha. any specific setting?

Manual mode, 20" shutter and like f/8-ish. There's a little light meter on the bottom of the viewfinder that you can use to make sure you're at the right shutter speed, set a timer, and when it goes off you can run around with the light making trails. Haha
