It's just another way of making communication easier, no different from a mobile phone or an e-mail account. I'm by no means flying the metaphorical ZUCKERBERG clan flag or anything like that, but before being so hesitant to give it to the mainstream/conformist social network you so obviously detest, maybe give thought to its usefullness. Especially since you're heading overseas soon and a lot of us would like to stay in contact with you and see what you're upto over there.
Aside from obviously being a conformist internet sensation that you ****, its actually pretty helpful in keeping in touch with people you don't get a chance to see often and keeping all your contacts in one place. For creatives it's a good way of networking and being able to have a place to contact people quickly and easily. I book a lot of my gigs, here and interstate using FB messages, since most people can access their FB by phone - its quick and easy.
You're not losing a part of yourself or your privacy by having facebook, its all up to you about how much you control and what you want to say and let others see.
I can understand you being HELLAMAD about having one made for you, but the guys just wanna stay in contact with you. Not pretending I was over last night and knew how annoyed you felt or the circumstances, but it would be good to keep in contact when you head to US.
