Haha I've actually been looking into sparky or plumbing apprenticeships but in Melbourne or anywhere you gotta know someone and I'm not used to sinking vb's yet.

Building industry is pretty slow atm... Might struggle to get an apprenticeship in electrical anyway. Our company is not very busy and I have had a few guys ask for work. My brother (also a sparky) got the sack two weeks ago due to no work. According to the ETU (electrical union) the electrical trade is the slowest it has been in 30 years, apparently over a 1000 qualified sparkies currently looking for work :/

An apprentice i worked with a few years ago qualified recently and has been without full time work for the first 6 months of being an A grade :/ I am lucky to still have my job i reckon. Crown wil always have work because there are too many fools still gambling lol

In saying all that though, if you can get an apprenticeship and solid work i would highly recommend an electrical apprenticeship. Pay is awesome and the work is mostly fairly straight forward, schooling part of it is pretty tough though and 1st and 2nd year pay rates are pretty average, but still decent if on a big city job.

Wont last long.
