  • Stance noob looking for advice.

Hey stanceworks I'm John I'm from NJ and I recently picked up an 04 G35x Sedan.

I've had a bit of insight from my friends but I'd figure I'd introduce myself here and ask a few questions then later make a build thread. I found the wheels I wanted 18x8.5 XXR 521's. After I get the wheels what tires / bolts are recommended? What exactly is offset?(These wheels are set to 25.) Coilovers vs Springs? Any other info and insight you have is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome.

On a car as nice as an Infiniti, please do the car justice and run something a little classier than cheap cast knockoff wheels. It deserves it.

Offset is a measurement of how the backpad of the wheel (the mounting surface) relates to the centerline of the wheel. A quick trip to the FAQs in the Wheels and Tires section will get you all straightened out regarding wheel measurements.

You'll find the vast majority of people running static setups on here are running coilovers. They'll typically let you go lower than just springs, and the adjustability is worth it for dialing in your ride height.

Thank you for the timely response!

I like the XXR's 521 look, but I know they're BBS knock offs made in china. This is going to be my first set of wheels and I'm worried about spending a lot on them. What would you recommend?

The best advice I can give is to peruse the classifieds on here and look for something used that suits your fancy. You may wind up having to put some energy into refinishing them, but you'll wind up with something of quality that will keep its value and not shatter when you inevitably hit a pothole.

I have no idea whether any of these meet your needs in terms of specifications or not, but on the first two pages of the classifieds alone I see a set of AME Fins, Work VS-XXs, two sets of VS-TXs, and a set of RSIIs, all of which look at least vaguely like the BBS LMs that those XXRs are aping. There's even a couple sets of LMs in there.

Alright I'll check it out the forum. I've seen work's before they're beautiful.
Will certain offsets not fit my car? My stock offset is 45mm

Any other brands like xxr to avoid?

Offset, combined with wheel width, changes how inboard or outboard the wheel sits in the fender well. Specifically, it tells you how far inside or outside of the centerline of the wheel the backpad sits. From this and the width of the wheel, you can calculate where the wheel will sit when installed.

The offset range necessary to fit a wheel of a given width depends on your vehicle, the camber of the wheel, how much fender work you're willing to do, and what your definition of "fits" is. The best thing to do is google yourself an offset calculator, punch in the specifications of the wheel you're looking at, and then go out there with a tape measure and see how it will fit.

You can literally fit any offset on a car if you use to the right parts and tools. Camber is your friend

I wouldn't say avoid reps completely. I use reps in the winter time, I mean who wants to mess up $3k wheels? Anyways, rep brands like XXR, Stance, STR, Varrstoen, etc. (so many rep brands.) Good key is if it costs less than $1300 BRAND NEW for a full set, they are reps more than likely.

Just save up, it's worth it in the end.

If you just want generic chrome lug nuts, Otis Inc. LA's are high quality and inexpensive.

If you want something decorative, then it depends on the finish you're looking for.
