  • RX7 Efini from the UK

    Hey team,

I'm based in sunny old England, don't be too jealous, and basically wanted to share my baby and grab a few pointers from you guys. Love the whole stance scene and JDM. As such, I've just bought my iphone SW cover for a casual £51 delivered here and I hope it's worth it! So, I have a '92 RX7 Efini which is running a huge street port on a 13b rotary engine and a fairly large TO4r turbo at 1.0bar producing approximately 490bhp.
This was how I bought her, albeit after a little extra lowering from myself:

At the moment due to the power she struggles for traction at the rear and so I thought that whilst I was fitting larger wheels I might as well sort the stance too. She's currently running 17s with 9.5j at the front and 10.0j at the rear. I managed to buy the exact same set of rims only in 18inch for the casual price of an arm and both legs, yes JDM FTW.
My plan is to run the current rear 17s upfront so 17inch 10.0j at the front and 18inch 11.5j at the rear. The bodywork is going to need slight flaring and basically I need your help stancing it or pointing me to somewhere that will educate me how.

    Got dish?

I was thinkin' a 235 stretched tyre upfront and a 275 at the back but don't really know where to start guys. If you guys would point me in the right direction, any help at all will be truly appreciated.

    Cheers.

Dude thats dope, not a great fan of the wheels though.

I keep wanting to buy one of these it's just the reliability that puts a downer on it for me.

Wheels are getting powder coated anthracite so don't worry. As with the reliability, they're not unreliable at all. It's only when people treat a rotary engine like a piston engine is when you start having trouble and as long as you care for it properly then considerately then they are fine. Don't be scared!

I was wondering if there was a FAQ around here or a guide on how one gets credit card-like fitment on their cars?

theres no FAQ for it. Just use the search function and look around. Theres lot of good info around here. maybe not FD specific, but theres lots of general stuff that can help you out

Thanks y'all. I've run a few searches and found some build threads and such but there must be a few of you in the know. Where do I start or what are a few basic pointers?

Do I get the bodywork flared before and match the wheel/offest/stretch to the body or give the bodyshop the wheel with tyre and spacer and say flare this much and credit card fitment please?

Either. Build out the arches, then get the wheels sitting where you want after a lot of careful calculations playing with spacers / new barrels or lips.

Or fit the wheels, go to a bodyshop and say you want another inch either side.

'Credit card fitment' doesn't have a FAQ or guide. It is how you want to get it yourself. You want those wheels? Make the car fit them. Add a few degrees of camber, lower the car down to the wheel and see where you stand. Work out how much tyre you can fit. Where you want the tyre to sit and what is available.

So it's really that simple then? Just go get the arches flared, get the car back, poke it out with some spacers and then stretch a tyre inside to fit and run 1-2degrees negative camber?

I thought there was more to it than that, but ok!

There is no kit you buy to make it?

I wouldn't say it is that simple. You need to work out how much space you have, how much you need to measure the arches, how much tyre you can fit, offsets and so on.
