Deciding upon an engine for my car, Rusty, was far from a simple task. I’d like to suggest that all along, I knew exactly what I wanted, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, several engines came to the shop, and then left on truck beds… An S62, an M106, and I even came close to pulling the trigger on an S85 V10 before I finally settled on what I felt was most true to form: the truly unique, and truly “BMW” S38 inline-six.
Rusty Slammington – Today at SEMA, one day before the show begins, Mike Burroughs revealed his famed creation. After four years behind closed doors and two years under the knife, we’ve pulled the cover back on Rusty Slammington. From the tube chassis and the and custom H&R suspension, to the race-prepped S38 and the center-lock BBS E52s, little remains from the E28’s past iteration; however, Rusty’s heart and soul remains. Today, a legend has returned.
It was just more than a year ago that StanceWorks partnered with Amir Bentatou and his ’97 BMW M3 in an attempt to take on the world of Time Attack racing. Our first foray into the world of Motorsports began with Super Lap Battle 2013, where we took home a second place finish in the Enthusiast Class, with a margin of a mere two-tenths of a second behind the winner. However, that wasn’t enough to satisfy our appetite for victory.
In November, Amir and his StanceWorks-sponsored M3 took to the track at Super Lap Battle, taking home 2nd place in the Enthusiast class. It was a bitter-sweet finish, just 0.02 seconds behind the leading car – yet we did well considering the odds against us. The season came to a close shortly after; the final race took place at AAA Speedway, where Amir and the M3 took home a first-place finish, leaving our spirits high for the incoming 2014 series of events.
