As the sun dipped below the tips of the mountains on the horizon, the asphalt of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway began to glow with the light of fluorescents. Bits of tire surrounded the edge of the track like beaches of rubber sand. Practice was over, and true to its name, Round 6: After Dark began.
Slivers of sunlight remained as the cars gridded up. Drivers took turns boiling their tires before they were paired against their opponents.
We’re finally home from SEMA, one of the largest automotive trade shows in the world. SEMA, which stands for Specialty Equipment Market Association, holds the annual SEMA Show once a year, allowing buyers, sellers, and exhibitors to congregate across 2 million square feet of exorbitantly extravagant booths and cars. It is the industry’s ultimate networking tool, allowing companies to meet one-on-one to further their businesses.
We are out in sunny Las Vegas for the 2011 SEMA Show. I can remember for years getting so excited at seeing terrible cell photos of all the various cars debuting at SEMA’s past, but was always left wanting more. Well, we wanted to do something special for you guys and give you a inside look into some of the builds debuting. Starting today, we will be showing you a detailed look at a different build every day.
To say there’s a gap between our generation of “car guys” and the last is an understatement. There’s an unquantifiable list of reasons why that gap exists, far more than just “age”. There really aren’t many guys above 25-30 who find themselves dropping their cars as far as possible and stretching their tires to fit wheels that our fathers would tell us simply “don’t fit”.
