Mark Tingey’s ’89 911 Carrera 4 clearly has a lot of draw. Its white-on-white styling nestles it comfortably somewhere in between the 80s and 90s, and its perfect paint, stature, and presence command a bit of respect. Catering a bit to all tastes but the bland, it’s a 964 we can all happily envision in our own garage. In fact, Mark’s story with this 911 began just that way.

Coilovers are typically pretty familiar territory for the StanceWorks crowd. For folks like us, they’re often the first, second, or at worst, third modification we make to any car. It was a few weeks ago, with the shop door wide open, that a fellow BMW enthusiast spotted the slew of E28s inside the StanceWorks HQ. Driving an absolutely gorgeous 535iS of his own, he pulled up outside, eager to talk shop and gather opinions. It wasn’t long before he asked about suspension options, having eyed a few different setups, but expressing some doubts about the results they might offer.

If you were to ask us, we’re tempted to say there’s no better way than to spend a Friday than at the track, especially when it’s on the clock. Luckily, our friends at KW Automotive agreed, hosting what they’ve named the “KW Shakedown” – a private track day for the KW family of employees, dealers, ambassadors, and friends – at the Streets of Willow Springs.

My weekend morning started off with a call from Matt Crooke of Fifteen52. I’ve learned to trust his suggestions, so when he followed up the phone call with an unfamiliar Los Angeles address, I simply packed up my camera and hit the 405 North. The GPS led me up the busy freeway and over the hills of LA before exiting off onto an industrial street. The weekend left the street barren aside from a few recognizable cars, so I continued into the garage where everyone had gathered.
