More than two years ago, StanceWorks embarked on its most modern project car to date – a 2000 BMW 740iL, with Jeremy Whittle behind the wheel. What began as “daily cruiser” quickly evolved, and in time, became what we’d consider might just be one of the best E38s out there, although we’re clearly biased.

It was more than a decade ago, in 2004, that three young BMW fanatics turned their attention to their car’s stereo system. Their 1998 Titanium Silver M3 was, like most BMWs, in desperate need of audio attention. Even now, BMW’s reputation isn’t built upon the quality of their sound systems, and as an integral part of the driving experience, especially if it’s meant to be the ultimate driving machine, car stereo upgrades are essential.

In 2011, with the help of Jeremy Whittle, I stumbled across the find of a lifetime. Tucked away in a garage in central Georgia was a 1971 2800CS, sitting right where it was parked 4 years prior. It hadn’t moved an inch since its owner brought it home: after discovering the cost of the parts and pieces needed to take the car from clean to perfect, his interest waned, and it was by sheer chance that I was the first to call when his Craigslist ad was posted.

In September, HRE Wheels unveiled the Classic Line, harking to the best designs of the ’90s. When asked if StanceWorks had any candidates for a first set, we knew just what to do. After wrapping a set of 309s in Nitto Invos, we mounted them to Jeremy Whittle’s E38 StanceWorks project build. Under the fluorescents of Downtown Los Angeles, we did what we do best once again.
