The year was 2012: hard to believe 8 years have passed, but being able to look back in time at how different things were can be refreshing. It was the night before my second trip to California, and I knew that there was a 13-hour flight ahead of me, so I figured I would spend the night capturing a moment in time. I didn’t know at the time that the car wouldn’t be with me for much longer, though.

How many people name their cars? I have always been a believer that if you name a car, it is a car that you intend to keep for as long as you can. Naming a car that you’re going to flip or part out is pretty pointless in my opinion, but I guess like most things in life it’s a matter of personal preference. In 2018 I purchased this car for my then fiancé to learn how to drive manual as she had been wanting to for years.

I haven’t properly been behind the camera shooting cars in about 2 years now. Once I graduated college, I was in a desperate search for a job, and that took nearly all of my time, pulling me away from the craft entirely. I did a few side sessions for a high end “dealership” if you will, and that was pretty much it. Once I finally landed my job, it of course took over my life.

The sheer bredth of cars at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is nothing short of breathtaking. From 1920s open-cockpit behemoths, to the fastest Group C prototypes from the mid 1980s, there’s a bit of everything for everyone. Moreover, on track, the cars take on an entirely-new persona, coming to live through motion and sound. However, if you look closely, you’ll find a car or two within the paddock of Monterey that never make it onto the tarmac.

There’s a good chance that if you live anywhere close to fellow like-minded car enthusiasts, you get together with some regularity “shop talk” and wrench sessions. It’s one of the beautiful things about the car community: its ability to unify and bring people together in the name of an interest love we all share.  It’s a bond that is simply inexplainable to those who don’t share it with us..
