I really need to invest into a better camera, but don't know where to start.

I was curious, a kid I know stole a brand new Canon EOS Rebel T2i , and he was going to sell it to me for $500 because obviously, thats all profit. Do these have serial numbers or anything of the sort? Rather not be blamed for the theft, although I feel kinda grimy for thinking about buying it in the first place. Thoughts?

Well ya I was asking both questions haha. I honestly don't think I would even know how to use it, is it too much for a complete beginner? And my morals start going out the window after every blurry/dark photo I take of my damn car.
